Fortisimo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 I understand what you are saying... but it contradicts his iron fist campaign against pride, it seems. Our band is certainly not driven by discipline, or even really the desire to be better for the sake of being better... we work because we want to win because we have a high level pride in our program. This is our primary driving factor. And if you can't accept that, then fine. But, surely you wpn't tell me that when you beat a band who you practice, at most, half as much as on average, that you don't have a huge feeling of honor and pride for your prowess. Maybe you just can't understand; but that's ok, it doesn't make any differenceto me.
Moose Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Fortisimo said: umm.... what? Are you saiying the part you quoted is hyping? If so, I think you are sorely mistaken. Once again, I must reiterate, we will see how it turns out next season, but we go into it with a strong confidence. IF we get our asses handed to us, then you can say "Haha! Told you so! Pure hype", but if we own, I think then we'll know whether or not it had any basis in fact. People from good well established bands don't hype. You don't see any Reagan, Bell, or James Bowie kids on here saying how good they are gonna be next year and watch out. They just sit back and impress us every year. You guys are saying watch out for martin, and even if you do own next year, it is still hype. If a reagan kid was on here saying "Omg watch out for Reagan next year, we are gonna win nats, and we are gonna own!omg!1!!1!!" Then every one would be angry at them, even though it is very possible they will do extrememly well. Just becuase you beat L.D Bell at some random competition when they weren't at there full potential doesnt give you a license to hype. And that is what yall have been doing. So just stop, no one likes to hear it.

Fortisimo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Lmao, a lot of people enjoy being in our band. We enjoy ourselves, and we do well. And we are driven by pride. As I said in the quote quadratic used... And fine moose, do what you like. I really don't have any concern for what you think...

I dont want to be mean, but if you guys are doing this 10 months before marching season starts, I can't even imagine how bad the hype will be in october. Im just trying to keep this community free of things that people get irritated with.
Fortisimo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Well, that all depends on how well things seem to be going at teh time. Right now, we are still on the high note of our last competition. If, say, we get in our freshmen and they just really really suck and we start trying to do stuff and can't get anything done, you can bet I won't be around making empty promises. This is just played off of what we have to go on, that is, this past season. And your comment doesn't seem mean at all. Don't feel like you need to hold back anything with me. I'm a pretty straight forward person, so I don't mind if others are blunt with me.
actualgirltrombone Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 All I will say is to watch out for having a big ego. It will bite you in the butt.
sax5warrior Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 To the posters here who are from Martin High Dont tell everyone about your band and about your "freaking awesome show", show us about your band and your show, then youll win respect
Fortisimo Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Have you not been paying any attention? I have said innumerable times that we will see next season.
MartinHorn Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Man, TENSION. Quote Are there any humble people at Martin High? Me. Anyways in regards to this quote Quote Dont tell everyone about your band and about your "freaking awesome show", show us about your band and your show, then youll win respect As soon as we get our DVD's from NTBC we will put a video on the website. And I can't recall a single time I have self hyped. Quote Even some of your screen names are annoying. I only know of 4 martin students on this site and the only one that would seem annoying to other bands is martinbandownsyou06 Quote No... thats hyping, people don't like you for that. Who are these people? Quote I concur with Moose... besides that, I'd like to mention that I have come to hate the current saying of our band as an excuse for mediocrity rather than an inspiration for hard work, as it only seems to have been said by us on days when we, as usual, don't make the finals round. "We're only freshmen and sophomores." (Changed this year to "we're mostly only freshmen and sophomores.") It seems that, overall, when humbled, we prefer to give up. There are a small number of exceptions. Never settle for mediocrity! A good thing would be to find a show your band can get behind. And never let if your a sophmore or freshman stop you. I know freshman and sophmores that are better marchers than juniors and seniors. Quote Just becuase you beat L.D Bell at some random competition when they weren't at there full potential doesnt give you a license to hype. And that is what yall have been doing. So just stop, no one likes to hear it. See now you become no better than a hyper Moose. You don't insult the whole band because of one person. And our band motto is: Disciplined, Dedicated, Dignified, Proud, A leader, loyal, Sir.
Martinbandownsyou06 Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 thank you julian im not sorry that my sn offends you first of all i can hype the band if i want to im a senior im hoping that they do well and if im hyping because our band is good well get over it. i make one comment and it goes off. well you know what calm down. and if you wanna hype your band im not gonna get pissed off go for it but i didnt see your band do good this year. and also to reguards on the comment on how we beat ld bell when they werent at their full potential. uh you know ntbc was a week before boa grand nationals so how could they not be at their full potential even if you march part of a show you march the heck out of it so yeah
Dynasty Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 MartinHorn said: See now you become no better than a hyper Moose. You don't insult the whole band because of one person. Yeah, but it only takes ONE person to ruin it for everyone Being humble is not is not a lesson that can be taught. It has to be learned through hard experiences. You guys just dodged the bullet at NTBC.
MartinHorn Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Quote Being humble is not is not a lesson that can be taught. It has to be learned through hard experiences. You guys just dodged the bullet at NTBC. We learned that at Birdville and Duncanville. What do you mean by we dodged the bullet at NTBC?

You're a senior. Great. So what? There are people in college that still don't hype their band. QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM) i make one comment and it goes off. well you know what calm down. No one had posted on this thread for about a week until you came in with this comment.... "people are really ****. im tired of retarded people dissing our band were you not at north texas band championships to see our band. And im excited to see what Mr Hart brings next year. So watch out." The way you worded it rubs off people in a very negative way. QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM) and if you wanna hype your band im not gonna get pissed off go for it No one hypes their band because it's unclassy and rude. QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM) but i didnt see your band do good this year. Hyping your band at the expense of others? Nice. 1. Our band was great!!! Was your's? 2. My band is good!!! Watch out. Watch out. Watch out. Does it matter if you beat so and so? There were plenty of band programs in this country that were more successful than Martin this year. You see people at Carmel HS in Indiana talking liking this?? QUOTE (Martinbandownsyou06 @ Dec 8 2005, 10:10 PM)and also to reguards on the comment on how we beat ld bell when they werent at their full potential. uh you know ntbc was a week before boa grand nationals so how could they not be at their full potential even if you march part of a show you march the heck out of it so yeah Of course L.D. Bell wasn't at their fullest potential. How does a band place second at the North Texas competition, and then jumps to an astonishing third place (.05 out of second place) at the most competetive BOA Grand National Championships in recent memory? Bell's highest placement ever at Nationals. I've heard Bell's North Texas performance and their Grand National Finals performance. It was comparing light and day. Two completely different bands. You'd be surprised at how much a week can change the make-up of an entire marching band. I've been involved in this activity for years and have seen it plenty of times. All in all.... Some of you kids over at Martin need to grow up and get some class. Your ridiculous behavior is starting to overshadow your success at the North Texas competition. Which is an unfortunate situation. Just my $.02.
Xenon Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 What the heck are you doing up at a time like this Mike?
mbui Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Just got done studying for my finals in the morning. :-) How's Chicago? And, the snow??
Xenon Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 It was really fun running around downtown in the 6 inches of snow that we got in 3 hours.

Oh, and mbui, say what you want, but I would suggest that you learn how to use dependent clauses properly.... Quote Your ridiculous behavior is starting to overshadow your success at the North Texas competition. Which is an unfortunate situation. ...and secondly, I suggest you rethink you're argument here. More achievement=more pride; not pride = 1/achivement; that's just plain illogical. our pride doesn't denote a lack of achievment, as you suggest, it is merely a symptom of it.
