Oh neat, I know a few people from the old LC Band. What do you play?

I play the clarinet and I'm a junior, so i marched state back in 2012 (greatest high school experience so far) . langham has such a really rich and successful history and i think we can really make an impact this year.

i go to Langham and usually one of the parents puts up a video by now, but i cant find any. Our show is specially arranged so most of the music is just lots of different cuts from various classical arrangements, but as soon as i find a video i will put it right here.

yeah it seems that either the bands are posting every week's video or none at all... What's the show name/theme at least?

Fantasy, sort of a old timey french theme i guess you could say. The color guard and the props are both kind of clown looking.

I cant seem to find any of your show either. What is your show about?

It's about the characteristics of the suits of playing cards. I don't think we have recorded any performances yet, unless the directors are hiding them lol

Yeah but remember, we tied at prelims for first! The addition of SFA will only make this more interesting...

ya I'm curious about that too. maybe they didn't make area?

I highly doubt it... I've seen them at the friendswood festivals and they are hardly the ones to make 2's at region...

all i know is that anything could happen. i mean look at cy falls, they were top four in prelims last year then dropped to 5th and they didnt make state. its all about your performances at area.

There is no rhythm or reason to judging marching shows. It not like determining who won a 100 yard dash. Sometimes this subjective helps your school sometimes it doesn't. It is sort of like judging best movie of the year. Different strokes for different folks

i really hate how UIL is more of a BOA type judging system now. honestly BOA judging is more about the concept then the actual skill, more about the acting in the show rather than the music and marching. Basically if you have giant glowing props and lots of brass hits you will do good in BOA.

I guess I'm too late to the marching scene to have a perspective because I really like the entertainment aspect of the BOA shows.

that's what I'm saying though, BOA is more about the entertainment value of the "show" rather than actual musical and marching skill of the band.

Agree with Baredex, of course these bands are still very good, but it's pretty much a fact now that having props will bump you up a bit in contests. What really grinds my gears though is bands who only have their winds play about half of the show and the other half doing visuals or moving with the props. Like I get that marching band is changing but when you have that much time to catch your breath the band is obviously gonna be a lot more energized to play when they start again compared to other bands. Really unfair.
