5 te 6 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Curious to hear y'all's thoughts. Thinking (for example) of Hebron last year, who placed fourth at BOA Conroe, yet went on to win BOA Allen, prelims at BOA San Antonio, and lose to The Woodlands in BOA SA finals by .05 of a point. Is it just a question of more time to master drill/music, or are some directors skilled at making sure their band peaks at the right time? Quote
Baredex Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 i think it has to do with the band not fully realizing what they are capable of until later in the season when they are finally fully inspired to do the best that they can do. trumpetdrumajorpower13 1 Quote
Rubisco Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 More complex shows take longer to master. Hebron's music is usually very technical, so that might explain the 4th to 2nd jump (though I think the Denton win can be explained almost entirely by weaker competition). The Woodlands always peaks late because they always have a crap ton of stuff going on in their shows. They also seem to make more modifications than their competitors. azn 1 Quote

Same for us especially 2012 Show when we placed 14th at Denton BOA but later made UIL State Finals Quote
BlackJesus Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I agree with Baredex a lot for this Quote
5 te 6 Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 Yes...I was also thinking of The Woodlands, who started strong by winning BOA Conroe last year -- and just kept it up all the way to winning the Eagle. They look strong again this year, too. Quote

Not sure who should be more insulted: Hebron for winning (even though they had no competition or "weaker competition") Or EVERY OTHER BAND who competed. Even though they were weaker competition . Never thought I'd see the day that Marcus and Bell fell under the category of "weaker competition". Not to mention the other bands in the area. I am still chuckling. If the woodlands isn't at a competition there is no competition.....? And to be clear I think the Woodlands are awesome and think they will do very well again this year! Quote
Rubisco Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I suggest you take a look at San Antonio results from last year. A competition that had both CTJ and eventual national champion The Woodlands at it last year was definitely harder to win than one that had Marcus and LD Bell, as fine as those programs are. In any case, I strongly suggest you save your indignation for someone who gives a darn. Jbl3770 1 Quote
Jackson1 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 The beauty of these forums is we all love marching bands and can agree to disagree. I think you have some very insightful views and look forward to your posts. I happened to disagree with your comment on last years Dallas regional. I meant no offense. I will not comment on your posts moving forward. Thanks for your feedback. There is no indignation. I will look up the results of San Antonio. I seem to recall Hebron ending up doing well but I'll double check. Thx Go Woodlands!!!!!!!!! Quote
trombone18 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I agree with the fact that some shows are more complicated which is why they take awhile to get a higher score, but another thought is that some of those late bloomers are constantly improving. That doesn't go for all bands. Some have a great start, but hit their peek mid-season, and others continually get better even days before their last competition. 5 te 6 1 Quote
