euro_euph06 Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Lets just all keep in mind (before anything gets out of hand) that these are personal opinions. With that said...in '04 I thought that Cedar Park should have won. In a close second-LD Bell. In third place--Haltom. But I am still sticking to my "fearless" predictions for this year. Quote

But I am still sticking to my "fearless" predictions for this year. Indeed...personal opinions. And yes, fearless predictions are good. Besides, once you prove everyone wrong, you can laugh in their face about it Nah, but seriously, I slightly agree with the ranking you would've given Haltom. I am not quite sure I would have said third only because they didn't quite do a show where you can really judge the marching and playing aspect the whole performance, but I would have definitely put them in the top 5. But yes, as you brought out, and as I did a few posts back, these are our opinions. We should just have bands fight to the death and see who is the best... Quote
whitewing09 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 umm i think it would be bell... their color guard had that kinda scary dominatrix look this last year Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 True....I'd still put money on Churchill's guard though. The whole "angry guard" thing would be enough to make most people crap their pants. Or what about Allen's band? They would destroy everyone with their sheer numbers. If they lost a trumpet player or two, no biggy, they still 500 other people to go. Quote

The problem with bands like Allen and Duncanville, is that they have so many people on the field, that they can't maneuver or make actual sets. But yeah, Churchill's guard is killer, literally. Quote
Fortisimo Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Yeah, Allen's numbers definitely do not guarantee success. But I must say, Allen' band is very cool- they do lots of awesome wave stuff and whatnot in the stands- quite entertaining if you ask me. Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Yes, I know Allen can't be successful as some bands because of their size. What I was refering to was the "fight to the death" scenario. They would outnumber every band and then cripple them. Quote

trumpetman1288 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Do people really not like Duncanville's band or something? They honestly are probably one of, and if not, the best UIL bands out there. They have an incredible program, and yet they are bashed here quite a bit. Sad to see that kind of thing for such a great band. I am also curious about seeing a performance by Allen. I mean, I know Allen must be good to have such a large band (success = more interest in program = better recruitment = larger band), but how clean can you really get with so many people? That's just something I've wondered about. Quote
Fortisimo Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Duncanville's alright- not as good as they once were I don't think, but they're still pretty good. We didn't have an oppurtunity to compete with em last year though, so I dunno for sure though. Quote
whitewing09 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 HAHAHA churchill ya they do have that mean look. They could use those protractors and ruler things from 04 and those huge ball thingys from 05. Quote

Their attitude about not going to competitions, makes them seem like they think highly of themselves, like they are too good to go to a competition where there are half decent bands or something. And it's not like they are boasting or anything, it just makes them seem snobby. I hope they don't have a budget issue that keeps them from going to competitions or something... Quote

D-ville kids arent snooty. And they dont have an "attitude" about not going to competitions. Lassiter could easliy win a number of BOA competitions every year but they choose not to go becasue their band director realizes theres more important things than winning. Quote

Well that's the vibe I get from them. I'd like to know what they do with all their spare time on Saturdays though. And they don't have to go to the boa comps and win, they could let other people win, and we would all feel a lot better about ourselves then. Oh, their uniforms are ugly too. But that's just my personal taste. Quote

Well...at '04 State, we were sitting next to them waiting for the results to be announced. While we were waiting (and the UT Marching Band was performing) they were really obnoxious (sp.?) and yelling. And then, when they were announced third...were like "WHAAA?????"...and then when we were announced second....all heck broke loose. They were shouting crap that was really offensive to me (and my mother). Especially after we were (as least a few of us seniors) disappointed not winning (yes--I am very arrogant--ask my friends). But they are a good band...very distinguished musically...now if they could just work on their attitudes and egos...... Quote

Ya, i might as well say this even if i'll probably get bashed in someway, but i think cedar park and ld bell beat them hands down. i thought about it and i hated the crap out of their show but they still did good. just not as good as cedar park and ld bell Quote
