snares Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Will there be any coverage of the UIl regionals and area competitions? Quote

For UIL Area, I plan on running the Live Blog from Area B but would also love for others to send in reviews and results from other Areas around the state. Quote
snares Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Good choice on going to area b! That will be crazy to watch! Thanks Quote
knoxisawesome348 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I REALLY wish Plano Senior and Plano West would at least participate at area. Someone said in another thread that there are only 25 6A schools in area B which, without Plano or Plano West, will knock it down to 23 (assuming all other bands participate and receive 1s) and only 4 will advance to state. If for whatever reason 4 more bands don't show up, only THREE will make it to state (let's pray that doesn't happen). So basically if I was the director at schools like Plano East, Richland, Flomo, Bell, etc, who are likely right on the edge of the cutoff, I would be begging those directors to take their schools to area again. And as an alum of one of these schools, I wish for personal reasons they would go regardless if more bands would make it to state or not. I don't think Plano West has ever made it to area finals, but I know Plano did back in 2008 and I believe they came in 8th. I'm interested where both of those programs could end up considering the Plano schools tend to dominate (along with the Lewisville ISD schools) in the all-state competition. Quote
Xenon Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 I've updated several of the regions that have already had their contests. Quote

VictoryRun Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 How many 6A performed and didn't get ones in region 27 today? Quote

Xenon Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 OK, most of the 10/18/2014 results are updated, pending just a few stragglers. We'll have to wait for the Tuesday regions to finish before we know final numbers for most Areas. 6A Area C ended up with 24 bands, so they'll be advancing 4 bands to State (just 1 shy of advancing 5). Jackson1 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 So if I am reading this right area B 6A can only have 19 bands at best compete next week? So does that mean only 3 go through as posted earlier? Is below 20 the line between 3 and 4 bands going through? Talk about a competitive area. If we assume Hebrom and Marcus take 2 spots.that third spot is is going to be a battle. A great band or two may not make state because of numbers. Quote

A great band or two may not make state because of numbers. No, Area B already has 14 qualified to advance (2 of which probably won't compete), and Region 5 has 10x 6A bands. That makes for a maximum of 24, minus Plano and Plano West makes a "max" of 22. In order for Area B to send 4 bands to state, there needs to be 20 competing bands. That means that Region 5 needs to advance 8 of their 10 6A bands. Quote
Jackson1 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Thanks for the clarification. Go Region 5!!!!!! 1's across the board I hope...... Quote
Lynn Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 So how many bands will Area D be sending to state? Quote
Xenon Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 On 10/19/2014 at 3:34 PM, Lynn said: So how many bands will Area D be sending to state? We don't know for certain yet. Between Regions 8, 12, and 26, there are already 24x bands who have qualified to compete at Area D. The Region 18 contest isn't until Tuesday and has 10x 6A bands. That means that the absolute maximum number of bands that could compete at Area D is 34, assuming that all 10x of those bands earn a Division-I rating. Region 18 needs to advance at least 6x of their 10x 6A bands to have 30 competing at Area D which would mean that 6 would advance to State. If Region 18 advances 5 or fewer to Area (unlikely), then Area D would only advance 5 bands to State. If none of the Region 18 bands earn a Division-I (highly unlikely), then Area D would only advance 4 bands to State. Quote
TXWestside Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Xenon, Timber Creek HS(Keller) and the Keller Central HS Bands from Region 2 received all 1's as well... Please update Quote

Hmm well I suppose it must have been an error on the TMEA website, because those two schools are most definitely 6A. I know because i'm am alumni of the ISD and follow their programs. Quote

GBMELLO Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Someone please explain to me how 6A Area A is going to work this year? Some bands will be competing in El Paso, some in Lubbock, and some in Fort Worth. How will they determine who makes State? Quote
