Statebound Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Don't want to overstate, but if I consider myself one of the top bands I really like that 9:45 am prelim time for Hebron. This is not a scientific statement, but the morning bands never score as well as the afternoon bands and you assume the Hebron kids will be coming straight from DFW to the Alamodome with no sleep. I believe that Marcus may have had the same issue a couple years ago. The plot thickens... Quote

However, I'm confident we'll see Hebron in the finals. Also, Hebron's flying to SA Fiday night and sleeping in a hotel. On the other hand, Spring is performing at 9:30am Saturday morning. However, I'm guessing they'll make it an overnight trip, too. Quote
principalagent Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 ...they're flying to San Antonio? Air travel within Texas is fairly cheap these days, but I didn't think it was *that* cheap! And yes, I think Hebron will be just fine. Even if they score lower in prelims, which I kind of doubt, they'll be ready to go for finals. Quote

I am pretty sure Hebron will load up the busses after the game just like everyone else. browser 1 Quote
beowulf Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 My mistake - it looks Hebron's taking buses. But, it is an overnight trip. Check that, it's a 5 night/4 day trip to SA! They're going to stay from Friday night to Wednesday morning, covering both competitions. Quote
sneakersaumc Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 It'll be more like a 4 day/3 night trip to San Antonio. I know in years past they have left close to midnight after Friday football games, and then drive back to Dallas the night of UIL finals. Friday night and Tuesday night they will be sleeping pretty on the buses instead of a hotel. Quote
nalyd8991 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 When we did it in 2012, we went to BOA SA on Saturday morning, came back Saturday night/Sunday Morning, and then left again Monday during the school day and came back Wednesday during the school day. Quote
jmatthews Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Honestly, I don't like how a lot of good bands are stacked in that last block. I don't think it's going to help an already difficult judging situation. Just my two cents. Quote
crazyhornkid Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Hebron isn't flying they never have and never will. They will leave their football game and head down after halftime. I will say the last time Hebron was in the first block was 2011 the only time the band hasn't placed in finals in the last decade. That year also has a dozen non playing marchers, a drill writer that virtually screwed the program, and several other inside issues. That was a different time. All Hebron needs is to make finals and based on what they've shown from the start and Denton to Saturday at Area B they can take it. Also being happy a band is earlier in the rankings so they tend to score lower is kinda sad. I've always liked seeing bands (the Hebron Marcus Bell trio) battle it out. It's more entertaining. Quote

takigan Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 64 bands plus the exhibition group......that might be a record. Also, 5 different states are represented in this contest (Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi, California) which is also the greatest number of states represented in this contest in a long time.....maybe ever. principalagent Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 How do people feel about sitting in the Upper Deck for finals? Is the sound quality good up there? I always thought the top of the GA seating was sufficient for a good view. It's my first time going to SA as a non-student, and I would love to get good seats! Quote
Xenon Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 I personally believe that the top of the general availability section is the best seat in the house. It is a far better sound than the front of the upper deck (very boomy) and a decent enough view. Another problem with the top section is it is hard to find a low/forward spot near the 50 that isn't slightly obstructed by either the fire suppression system or the video cameras. principalagent 1 Quote
principalagent Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Perfect! About what time do you have to stand in line after prelims to get a good seat? I see that the gates open around 6:15, but past experience tells me that there's already a pretty healthy line by then Quote
SmellyChicken94 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 For what it's worth, people start lining up as soon as they clear out for prelims! Quote
jmj Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Yes, I have even seen people start to line up before the announcement of finalists. Personally, I like getting the reserved ticket for finals. It gives me peace of mind, knowing that I've got a decent enough seat, no matter what and I don't have to worry about my place in line. Also, you have what amounts to a near aerial view of the field, so the visual aspect is tremendous. The forms really come alive for you up there. I have noticed so many things over the years in the drill just by being up there, even on shows that I'd seen 4 or 5 times previously. Quote
snares Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Man what time do you think Tom C. Clark band will be waking up? Quote

lovemarchigband Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Remember that a lot of the seats uptop are reserved and the band boosters buy blocks of seats for them to sit as a big group. Quote
