I have been following TX marching band for well over a decade, and I cannot conceptualize that LD Bell will not be at State Marching Contest. Wow. And even though the program isn't what it used to be, it is also pretty shocking to not see Langham Creek on that list. Just goes to show how fluid the TX band world is and how deep the field is in this state. Once upon a time, I probably couldn't fathom a State Marching Contest without Westfield either.

I do believe langham creeks skill level was not quite at state level as much as their reputation held them up.

I'm so proud of O'Connor kids executing to the many changes to the program throughout the year.  O'Connor program has improved so much over the course of the season compared to early contests.  For those of you that have not seen O'Connor's program lately you would be surprised.  Taking the feedback from the early contest judges and delivering great performances in prelims and finals at area to take it's first Area Champion honors in school history was phenominal (in a finals that included 20 bands no less).  A lot is said about Area B, C, D & F  for good reason but I'm in firm believe that Area G is going to surprise everyone at state and at the San Antonio Super Regional with at least a finalist in both is not multiple finalist.  Be on the look out as for "Area G" schools in the finals in state and in SA BOA.  Congrats to all of the schools that made it as it goals to show just how strong Texas bands are that two grand National schools did not make state.

P.S. What an outstanding year by all San Antonio Northside Schools with three advancing to state: O'Connor, Clark & Taft.

Bands seem to always want a late draw, because supposedly the judges save points in case a later band has an outstanding performance, especially if one or more of those bands are traditional powers.

Given the quality of bands with early draws, does that help or hurt bands with later draws like Reagan at 15:30, Duncanville at 15:45, or Flower Mound way at the end of Prelims at 17:15?

It definitely helps. You can survive an early performance, but bands on the bubble tend to benefit from going late in the day. I'd say that most of the truly surprising finalists of the past ten years or so came from the last prelims block.
