what do I do with old uniforms?

I just managed to get new uniforms for my small 1A band. Now I need to get rid of the old jackets. They are primarily red and white, with black trim. Anyone have any suggestions? I hate to just throw them away...

As poor as your school might be (most 1A's don't have a whole lot to work with), the fact that you're in Texas and your school is willing to invest in new uniforms is a sure indication that there are indeed poorer schools out there who are WAY overdue for uniforms and could use them.  Your colors are also common, so I'm sure there's a school somewhere that will want them...My university gave our old uniforms to some school in The Philippines...As to how to locate such a school, I couldn't tell you.

If your band has been using your current uniforms awhile (more than 15-20 years) and the band is respected in your small town, they may be a more valuable cultural artifact for your town than you realize. some programs have offered uniforms up to the community, where alumni of the band have purchased them for nostalgia's sake.  Making them into pillows and selling them as a fundraiser is also common.

Where I work we have to destroy old uniforms for security reasons.Last year we switched from navy blue to black and had to send several hundred sets to be shredded. Company policy required it, but I didn’t like it. Our uniform shirts are unique, but the pants/shirts/blazers are all pretty typical. I guess the big question is. What are you/your company comfortable with? How are the logos done? If they are embroidered you could possible remove them, but I doubt it would be worth the time and effort involved. I like the idea of giving them to employees with instructions that they can’t be worn to work since they are not a current uniform.
