How do you think things would shake up if BOA Grand Nats was held in Texas?

Personally I think Texas would dominate. So many more Texas programs would be able to attend. With Grand Nats being held in Indy, Texas is only able to send a hand full of bands every year due to travel and budget of the individual programs.

I know its a bit of a pipe dream but I would love to see Grand Nationals held in Texas at least once just to see what would happen.

I absolutely agree. Many bands from Texas cannot attend Grand Nats because of budget issues. I personally think Grabd Nationals should move around. Indiana one year. Texas the next. Cali the next. Florida the next. and so on. That way bands that normally wouldn't be able to attend can see how they rank on the national level. and bands that can make the travel arrangements would still be able to go to the contest in other states.

No matter where Grand Nats are at, the local bands would dominate. Far away programs just don't have the money, just like Texas bands with Indianopolis.

I've read some arguments that moving Grabd Nationals to Texas would be bad because Texas is not centrally located. Well that is true, but that's not saying that Indianapolis is. I'd say that somewhere in Kansas would be good because it is the center!

But, if it were to move, Texas would dominate. There usually 3 Indiana bands in finals (Avon, Carmel, Lawrence Central) and the other 9 are from other states. I'd say it would be harder if it was in Texas because you have CTJ, The Woodlands, Marcus, Bowie, Reagan, RRock, FloMo, Leander, Hebron, Bell, Cedar Park, Cedar Ridge, and Coppell. And that's just from one state!!!

The biggest problem with hosting GN in Texas is what stadium to use.

Really, the only viable stadiums from a capacity perspective are AT&T Stadium (Cowboys) and NRG Stadium (Texans).

I don't know a whole lot about NRG Stadium, but I do know these things about AT&T Stadium:

- Acoustical Nightmare

- Bad physical logistics for moving bands in/out simultaneously

- Last I heard, it was super expensive to rent

- There are essentially no places of consequence in the immediate surrounding area other than the baseball stadium (Lucas Oil being downtown and connected to the conference center is a big advantage from a trip planning perspective)

What's wrong with the Alamodome? Too small?

I thought so, but I just looked up the capacities of the stadiums and the Alamodome actually has a max capacity of 65,000 (including endzones and visitor side) while Lucas Oil is 63,000.

If the contest were held in the capital of Wyoming (Cheyenne), none of the bands within a 500 mile radius would be in finals.  That's if you could even find a large enough stadium to host.

...actually, American Fork is roughly 450 miles away in Utah.  They'd have a shot.

Fun fact: There isn't a single HS in the entire state of Wyoming that would be classified as 6A in Texas.  Only 6 schools would be classified 5A.  The largest HS only has 1800 kids.
