jlyman Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Feel bad for everyone headed down 35 today. This is a nasty storm that has made some tornadoes. Be safe out there!!! With that being said, I hope the Alamodome is ready. ORION is coming! Go Vista Ridge!!!!
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Vandegrift's performance just got moved to noon because of transportation. Should help alleviate some performance time concerns people had.
justabandkid94 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Vandegrift performing at 3:45. Talk about a long day, I'm sure they were up before 4 am for their original performance time. Glad the issue got resolved for them and they're safe. Any word on what other schools are affected?
Xenon Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Vandy is safe in San Antonio after having to pull off the road and evacuate into a hotel while on their way down. Other bands can't make it down safely, though. justabandkid94 1
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 At least Leander, Vista Ridge and Round Rock at all at their campuses still. I suppose BOA will have to extend prelims tomorrow, because the situation between North Austin and San Antonio probably won't get any better today.
guardgirl17 Posted October 30, 2015 Author Posted October 30, 2015 I just heard word that Westlake was on their way and turned around due to the dangerous weather conditions on I-35. They won't be making their 12:30 performing time today. I don't know what's going on for them, but I can assume it's the same for many Austin- area bands. Curious to know how that's going to affect scheduling... could the schedule on friday potentially be extened until later...?
natertater21000 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 it most likely will be. leander just got the news that the school district will not let them depart yet, so they are being scheduled for later. Pretty much what happened to Cedar park last year with the bus break down but to a greater extent. we may see Friday pre lims end at 10 not 8
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 So there are about 8 Austin area schools in the later block, as well as a couple from further North who would hypothetically face the same issue. Weather also won't get any better until this evening (where it'll still be raining, but not really any tornado threats). I'm not sure how feasible it is to have another block tonight. What's the likelihood that BOA will cancel finals and just hold a final block of prelims tomorrow afternoon / evening? Or I suppose cut the breaks tomorrow short by a lot?
natertater21000 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I don't see why a night block wouldn't be feasible. Pre lims are scheduled to end at 6:45 tonight which leaves plenty of time to re schedule bands for after that. Rain wont be a huge problem with indoor warm ups its just travel conditions. I highly doubt they will cancel finals for this event
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 The issue isn't necessarily how late prelims will go or the availability of warmup areas. It's the fact that as long as it keeps raining, it's going to continue to flood without getting better. I doubt any districts are going to let their bands go to San Antonio while everything between South Austin and New Braunfels is basically underwater. Hard Core Band Fan 1
jlyman Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Not to mention that after the weather lets up here in the afternoon, it's supposed to get pretty ugly again later in the day and all through the night.
bandperson1997 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Northwest Austin is taking a real beating. I'm not sure how the northwest Austin schools going (Anderson and Vandegrift) are going to make it. Perhaps they will move back their times.
Nny14 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Round Rock has not left. Not sure how much longer the delay will be.
natertater21000 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 has cedar park or vista ridge left? all I know is leander does not have the go ahead
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Vista Ridge hasn't left from what I last heard. Vandegrift arrived and will perform at 3:45, according to Dan (Xenon).
Nny14 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Pretty sure LISD is at a standstill as well. Some of our supply trucks report harsh winds.
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Calallen is performing early. The next block apparently won't start until 12:45, so I'm assuming Cedar Park hasn't arrived. They're likely stuck somewhere on 35 considering when they would have had to leave for their warmup call. For context, this is what South Austin looks like right now: https://www.facebook.com/FOX7austin/videos/1030960533612091/?permPage=1
Samuel Culper Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I can confirm Vista Ridge has not left and there is no ETD right now.
trumpetdrumajorpower13 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Word on the street is that there will be a later evening block tonight for the bands who can not make it there right now. Can anyone confirm this? guardgirl17 1

Chaparral Komeko Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Westlake kid here, apparently we're doing an evening block today. A ton of schools couldn't go so you get an amazing block tonight If your out there. guardgirl17 1
bandperson1997 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Austin ISD is under reverse evacuation (which means that they aren't allowed to leave the classroom). This really only affects Anderson, since Bowie doesn't perform until tomorrow morning.
principalagent Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 According to the live stream: Changes so far: Vandegrift -> 1:00 Round Rock -> 4:00 Dripping Springs -> 7:30 Leander -> 7:45 Westlake -> 8:00 Hendrickson -> 8:15 Pflugerville -> 8:30 Still to be rescheduled: Anderson Cedar Park All else remains as of Mr. Potter's latest announcement, including Vista Ridge at 4:15 (but wouldn't be surprised to see this change too) guardgirl17 1
Samuel Culper Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Leander band members are going to miss their senior night. Of course, given the weather, might not be a big loss.
