principalagent Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Dripping Springs took an exhibition spot as well, from what I'm hearing. Well, that's a for sure finalist space open, and probably two.

No evaluation, no chance at finals. No way. Wow. They're a top 5 band! I can't believe this. Seems like a failure on BOA's part here. Sad to see Dripping Springs and Anderson drop out as well. Love their shows. But Leander out? <expletive deleted>
BlackJesus Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 This website gets so heated around this time of year haha bandamonium 1
LKendrick Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I don't see why they can't just go 15 minutes earlier at 1:00 and lunch is shortened from 1 hour to 45 minutes. Oh well I guess............
BlackJesus Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I do feel for the bands that won't get to be there though. I'm sure the people running the event have been working hard to figure this out all day but unfortunately they couldn't fit a few back in. I'm sure they could've done something else to fit them in tomorrow but like we know, marching band isn't fair bandamonium 1
bandamonium Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Strange for Leander to go in as exhibition in between judging.... Don't know what to think

Or move local bands to early slots. Or if bands have been lucky enough to have hotels tonight in San Antonio, ask them to perform earlier slots. Dripping Springs: Beautiful show. One of my picks for finals. Leander: Their show is so KILLER! Top 5.
MaryJoLisa Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I can't help but think that Dripping Springs and Leander might have made different choices if it wasn't a state year for them. Maybe all the drama with the weather changes (Area D and now BOA) has caused a bit of fatigue in the organizations. Does anyone know if Leander still plans to be at their football game? That may have played a part in this too. The game was rescheduled to 2 pm, so they could still make most of it, but probably wouldn't want to turn right back around to go to finals.
Captain Obvious Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 An exercise in character building. And a chance to play in the venue prior to the State UIL championship. justabandkid94 and principalagent 2
natertater21000 Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 no I really don't think they have been working hard, they made no effort to shorten breaks or lunches or trade full retreat for a dm only retreat to save time. They have done nothing for me to give them any credit in this situation at all. Phone calls are great and all but when they yield no results and they sit back unwilling to take less than an hour lunch break, they have lost my respect completely
Popular Post Xenon Posted October 31, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 31, 2015 Leander very likely wants to get a run in the dome for the kids so they can experience how their show sounds in there and not get freaked out with the different reverb characteristics during State. That one drum major Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 The fact a company named "Music for All" is giving minimal effort in letting these kids compete to the fullest is pretty absurd. I am very disappointed at the fact they are refusing to judge these bands because they are during a break and there has been no attempt at pushing the full retreat back in substitute for a DM retreat to make it short. Honestly a complete contradiction to the title of the company. What a huge let down they have allowed.

There may not be enough "proof" for you to believe they've been working hard, but Bands of America is a high quality marching band circuit well known nationwide and I highly doubt they just sat around and didn't exercise every option they could. Just because we don't get the most ideal outcome does not mean that you should discredit efforts made for the last 18 hours to accomadate programs. Let's all be mature about this and understand that that's how life is. It's not always ideal and may not be as clear cut as we think it is. BlackJesus, Xenon, FloMoParent and 2 others 5

I personally heard Eric Martin asking directors if there was any logistical way for them to take the early spots. This kind of logistics change is just not easy. Popular Post LKendrick Posted October 31, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 31, 2015 While we may have our own opinions of how this is being handled, to say that they haven't been working INCREDIBLY hard to make this work is just not right. I couldn't imagine to have to deal with such a logistical nightmare. Regardless of what happened, BOA did their best to try and accommodate EVERYONE. While I am INCREDIBLY dissapointed that Leander is only going to be performing in exhibition and the thought of finals without them there is just not sitting right with me, there are 60+ other bands that are competing that BOA has also been working with, and it sounds like 99% of them are going to be there. Leander isn't the only school having these issues. It sucks, but it's easy to play the blame game when you're not on the phone the entire day trying to make the whole freakin mess work out. Quite frankly I'm shocked that more bands haven't dropped out or are in the same situation. This is happening because these directors care about these kids and are not willing to put them in an unsafe situation. All I can think about is that American Fork assistant director that was killed a few years back on the way back home from a competition. It wasn't because of weather, but I'd hate to think of something similar happening here. Just stay safe everyone, will be thinking about all the bands making the trek there tomorrow morning especially. Get some rest while you can, and I hope tomorrow is less hectic. AganNaga Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Just woke up from my sleep, got a text that DS is back on for BOA, and considering we have to be at the band hall by 11am we must have a pretty late slot. There will be more updates on BOA scheduling tomorrow, and I'm hoping the organizers were able to give all the Austin bands a time slot as well.
