Samuel Culper Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Just FYI, it was never supposed to be at Kelly Reeves. Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Looked like it was going pretty smooth this morning. I wonder how many schools get to be out the entire day vs schools that have to: - Leave class and go to competition - Go to competition and then go back to class - Miss all early classes, go compete, and then go back to school etc.. This could be a mess for those poor kids with homework and makeup work. And a late night with finals as well! Quote
principalagent Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 And a lot of these bands will miss class again on Friday and potentially next Tuesday for BOA and UIL State. Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Any news from the contest? How are the bands looking? Who is looking to be the strongest? Quote
principalagent Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Temple Bryan Seguin Cedar Park Leander Dripping Springs Vista Ridge Vandegrift McCallum Connally No order. Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 I am really surprised Bryan and Seguin made it in over Georgetown. Quote
LHSax Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Good to see some non-Austin based bands in 5A finals for once though! Quote
LHSax Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Supposed top 10 in prelims (someone else will need to confirm these) 1). Leander HS 2). Cedar Park HS 3). Vandegrift HS 4). Vista Ridge HS 5). Dripping Springs HS 6). McCallum HS 7). Seguin HS 8). Connally HS 9). Bryan HS 10). Temple HS Looks pretty much as predicted at the top. Quote
principalagent Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 That is correct. Leander had four first place votes. Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I sure hope the judges remember that this is UIL and not BOA Quote
principalagent Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Are you implying that bands with more "BOA friendly" shows can't be clean enough to also do well at UIL? Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 people need to stop assuming that all it takes to excel at BOA is flashy props and dance visuals. that has never been the case, just go look at Reagan 2003 or avon in 2009. the difference is that BOA gives more credit to the 90% clean hard show than the 100% clean easy show for UIL its flopped. (btw no im not saying state champion shows are easy but they typically excel in both arenas so that should be evident) Quote
bandperson1997 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Does anyone have a full prelims recap? Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Not implying anything. This is UIL and not BOA. Marching and music over "show". Quote
Xenon Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Prelims top-13: 1) Leander - 1,1,5, 1,1 = 9 2) Cedar Park - 3,2,1, 2,2 = 10 3) Vandegrift - 2,3,2, 5,4 = 16 4) Vista Ridge - 4,4,3, 4,3 = 18 5) Dripping Springs - 5,5,4, 3,5 = 22 6) McCallum - 6,6,7, 7,7 = 33 7) Seguin - 7,8,8, 10,8 = 41 8) Connally - 10,7,12, 6,10 = 45 9) Bryan - 9,9,16, 11,9 = 54 10) Temple - 11,10,9, 14,11 = 55 11) LBJ - 12,19,6, 13,6 = 56 12) Georgetown - 13,16,11, 8,12 = 60 13) East View - 8,14,14, 12,13 = 61 ... Quote
LKendrick Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The top 5 definitely separated themselves from the pack, all the 1st - 5th place votes went to them. No one above 6th. Quote
LKendrick Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Also, there is no reason in the world why a BOA centric show can't do well in UIL. If you're marching and playing well, you're marching and playing well. There's not NEARLY as much room for interpretation as there is with GE. Based on what I've seen, these results don't surprise me at all. thatbrown_guyy 1 Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 It really should stay that way for Finals. Those 5 really stand above the others. Quote
LHSax Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Some of the most consistent prelims judging I've ever seen at this competition! We'll see if it stays that way tonight. Quote
bandperson1997 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I felt like LBJ got cheated out of finals. They're really good. The question is: are they a 19 band or a 6 band. Biggest inconsistency in prelims. Other than that pretty consistent. Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 *sigh* BOA isn't only show either though, you cant get the show points without the marching and music points Quote
principalagent Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 http://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/Area_D_5A_Finals.pdf Extremely tight between the top two and next two. Should be interesting going into BOA San Antonio and State. Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 And it's LISD + Dripping Springs. Quote
