dmkatie Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Heard that there is a possiblity that Area contest (at least for area c) will be moved to Monday because of rain. Any updates/opinions on this? Not sure if it's true, just a rumor. Quote
aaron067 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 That would nice but unlikely. See the official inclement weather procedures. Quote
dmkatie Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 Agreed. And I've heard that they could make an exception or something because they know it's going to rain so early in advance? Supposedly... Quote
takigan Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Rain in general is going to be crazy all over the state. TxB is staying home (So no Live Blog )Have fun kids! .....but in all seriousness though....stay safe. Quote
Xenon Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Yeah, rain doesn't get along well with all the electronics used to run the live blog.... If you are at an Area contest, be safe. And check in here on the forums and let us know how it is going. Quote
LKendrick Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I'm going to the 5A Central Zone in Odessa, looking like the only part of Texas that won't be getting poured on. Quote
Parkwoodmom Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Having a flashback to the MudBowl of 2002..... Quote

ladybookworm Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I've heard a rumor that some have been moved to Monday... will there be finals? (I know, I know, it's a school night but it'd be so awesome to have finals!) Quote

Xenon Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Areas B-5A and C-5A have been moved to Monday. Both are keeping the same prelims performance times. Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Oh, God, please let Area D do the same. Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Hope Area D does the same as well. I just saw a weather forecast for 20 inches of rain for the Austin area over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is supposed to be ultra ugly with a cold front hitting us about the time the contest starts. Looks like it's going to be an all day event with the earlier bands getting the biggest end of the shaft... Quote
LKendrick Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 If it's the same cold front that came through the panhandle yesterday, eek. Constant heavy rain, wind, and even some small tornado touch downs..........we got about 2 inches within an hour. Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 The weather statement on the UIL homepage has not changed since 2:00 PM today. http://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/UIL_Area_Marching_Band_Contest_Updated_Weather_Statement.pdf 20 inches through Sunday 1:00 PM. Perhaps we should send this to them: Xenon 1 Quote
Samuel Culper Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I really hope sanity prevails on Friday Quote
northtexasbandfan Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Don't look now, but the current forecast for next Saturday, Oct. 31, in San Antonio is a 60 percent chance of rain. Notwithstanding the fact that the competition is indoors, rain would negatively affect many other aspects of what the bands need to deal with. Hoping that forecast changes. Quote
LHSax Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 The interesting curve ball re-scheduling puts into this is how the directors plan out rehearsals leading up to Monday. Normally Saturday contests work well, because you have rehearsals all week, a game on friday, and then you carry the show momentum into the competition on saturday. The bands likely won't get a chance to rehearse (at least outdoors) friday-sunday, and will come into monday a bit "cold." Plot twist! Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Latest weather statement from UIL is out as of 10:00 AM this morning. http://www.uiltexas.org/ Scroll down to "UPDATED Area Marching Weather Statement" Basically, no news. No mention of rescheduling or delaying. Quote
vincentlee1220 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Area D looks to be clear (at least later in the morning on into the night) Kinda sucks for the early bands in prelims though :/ Quote
Robert_Jordan Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Next up in Area D Prelims performing their show "the Ark and the Great Flood".... HighSchoolBandNerd212 and Parkwoodmom 2 Quote

Xenon Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Area G has now been rescheduled for Wednesday 10/28. Same venue and same schedule. Quote
