natertater21000 Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Why exactly can't they judge them though? I just can't see any logical reason behind allowing them to perform but not judging. I just can't see where the overwhelming hassle would be there. :/ Quote
principalagent Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Looks like Hendrickson may only be an exhibition. Pulling from multiple sources and trying to conclude something. Quote

theduke Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Dripping Springs has taken an exhibition time at 4:45 to get some playing time in the dome before state as long as the busses are able to make the trip. Quote
bandamonium Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Weather looks all clear for the day! Storms have passed. Great day for marching band! FloMoParent 1 Quote

Is this the group of bands not going tonight? Anyone know? Is this the group that only 5 are getting chosen from? 7:30 PM Dripping Springs H.S., TX 7:45 PM Leander H.S., TX 8:00 PM Westlake H.S., TX 8:15 PM Hendrickson H.S., TX 8:30 PM Pflugerville H.S., TX 8:45 PM Vista Ridge H.S. TX * [Round Rock H.S. TX, which was scheduled to perform at 9:00 PM tonight, is unable to perform due to travel issue.] Can anyone please explain 1) why only one of these bands accepted their evening spot and the rest declined and 2) why Bowie Marching Band was able to wrangle a later slot that could have easily been offered to one of the bands that was TRULY impacted by the heinous weather in Austin yesterday rather than the *potential* bad weather overnight (that ended up being nothing much, btw) and they could have very easily made their original early spot? principalagent Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 1) All of their school districts prevented them from moving. 2) They re-drew for a position with the other Austin area bands and got the 4:30 slot. And to point two, nobody knows how bad the weather can be until it happens. Now, let's move on. This conversation beats a dead horse and won't go anywhere. Dripping Springs and Leander still have another chance to finish their season strong, and Hendrickson will be able to give their seniors a run in the night show. FloMoParent 1 Quote

That makes sense. As far as #2 goes, I don't think I'm the only person here that smells a rat (keeping with the dead animal references) when MfA allows one band to have a much later (less "omgthissucks") slot and then offers super early spots in a draw for the other bands that are coming from the same area of Texas that could "potentially" (can you see my exaggerated finger air quotes?) be impacted by the same predicted weather that allowed the first band to bail on that less than favorable time slot. I don't really have a horse in this race but the smell generated by this is wafting across the Alamodome and just underscores and confirms what a lot of people think but no one really wants to say out loud. In the end, we have thousands of students working their behinds off for this final performance. Medal or not, finalist or not, parents and all the aux staff are behind them 100%. Just another lesson in life that not everything can be explained away and "fair" is subject to interpretation. Quote
Xenon Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 There is no rat. Bowie would have been unable to make the travel in the morning, so they put in for the random slot draw along with all the other Austin area bands. They just happened to pull a workable time slot. Nny14 1 Quote
ladybookworm Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 So, will there still be A & AA exhibition for finals? Just curious. Quote
Mash Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 From the Vista Ridge parents: Leander HS are performed an exhibition performance of their show - they were unable to compete in the time slot they were given in the lottery Great job Leander band! Very very classy move in the Leander HS parents - they were outside as Vista Ridge left the stadium earlier today and they applauded and cheered and yelled encouragement and best wishes to the band and Starline! They are supporting the district bands even if they were unable to compete. Parkwoodmom 1 Quote
blazinghandles Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Hey, does anyone know the music list for Leander's show? I just watched Choral Works and I really want to go back and listen to the masterpieces they played. Thanks Quote
trumpetdrumajorpower13 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Lost it to Trying by Son Lux, Symphony No. 3 Mvt. 4 by Philip Glass, Once Upon Another Time by Sara Barielles, and the rest was original music written by Michael Zellers, and Ryan George. Quote
