Donezo Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 1. Vandegrift 2. Cedar Park 3. Leander 4. Vista Ridge 5. Dripping Springs 6. Wakeland 7. Waxahachie 8. Southwest 9. Centennial 10. Aledo Cannot 100% verify the accuracy of that list, but it's what a little bird told me from the press box. Quote
Nny14 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I knew Vandegrift would bring it back! Not surprising considering their rise from area in 2013. Quote

Waxahachie 8. Centennial 9. Southwest 10. Aledo Quote
vincentlee1220 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I really want my babies to be able to medal, but in a wider scope I just want LISD to take the top again Favorite to win is Cedar Park 96Silver 1 Quote
Fwguard17 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Not going to lie, I'm a little disappointed in Leander. Can anyone tell me if their state finals run was sub-par for them? It was the first time I was seeing them this year. Not that it was poor by any means, but it was definitely below the standard they set for me with Color Study. Color study was intriguing from beginning to end and during Choral Works I was definitely feeling my mind wander. Certainly not the same level of engagement I would have associated with a regional champion. Quote
vincentlee1220 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Same here. I've seen Choral Works 4(?) times this past season including on stream for prelims today, and watching it on stream for finals tonight, felt it was a bit flat energy-wise. Still INCREDIBLY refined though. Quote

I know that BOA Regional Champions and Class Champions get medals but 2nd and 3rd place don't get anything even though we all them "medalists". 96Silver 1 Quote
LKendrick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I think part of it is the live feed audio, I felt the same way about Vandegrift. The audio from the BOA cast just seemed to have A LOT more energy. That also might just be me. Quote
LKendrick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I REALLY like that Vista Ridge show, love the direction they're going. Quote
Fwguard17 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Vista throwing down! I thought that out did both of their LISD brethren so far... Side note: What are the odds that Vista and Reagan BOTH use that tune for their ballad? Isn't it rather obscure? I definitely prefer Reagan's version, but what great source material! 96Silver 1 Quote

My bronze medal from 2013 is hanging happily on the wall back at home. Great memory. Though I wish they'd etch what contest it was won at (it just says UIL state) 96Silver 1 Quote
Xenon Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Yes, there were very serious timing issues from Leander in Finals from the very first sax duet. And while they mostly recovered, they still seemed a bit freaked out the rest of the show. Even had some falls. 96Silver 1 Quote
Fata1 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Just wanted to log in to my account for the first time in two years to say congrats to Southwest for making state finals for the first time in school history. Really proud to see my old high school achieving greater things. Quote
Fwguard17 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Wow. WOW! Not a judge, but if Cedar Park didn't just sew up a state championship I'll be shocked. WOAH.... 96Silver and albertedison98 2 Quote
LKendrick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Cedar Park.....................I think we might have just seen our Champion. 96Silver 1 Quote
vincentlee1220 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Super proud of Vista Ridge's run. Probably their best of the season. Was it just me or was the soprano sax mic out in the ballad? Shame, it's a beautiful solo 96Silver 1 Quote
principalagent Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I'm at the SMBC in person and I can verify that Cedar Park was all that. I would seriously be shocked if they don't win. Quote
LKendrick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I think I can EASILY say this is the absolute best 5A (old 4A) contest there has ever been. Some of these bands would contend for a medal in 6A for that matter. Quote
LKendrick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 How long has this guy been announcing? Always know it's state time when I hear his voice. vincentlee1220 1 Quote
vincentlee1220 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 @principal how was Vista's run in person? Can never trust these live streams ;p And agreed, CP was insane even from the stream Quote
natertater21000 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 as far as the recording goes for leander, I heard no major timing issues. a small one in the sax feature but none in the rest of the show. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I'm going to have to agree with the comments about Leander and Cedar Park. CP brought the energy. Quote
Fwguard17 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Wireless mics are extremely tricky in the dome. My director is always afraid to use them because the frequency's get mixed up in the dome semi-frequently. Especially when you are far away (like that soprano sax was) from the board. Quote
