LKendrick Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Flower Mound. They got the show design down last year and this year they brought the performance to that level too. Absolutely incredible. FloMoParent 1 Quote
principalagent Posted October 9, 2016 Author Posted October 9, 2016 Bell, at least on the webcast, was a notable step up from earlier today with a much better musical run. I think we all know winning is out of the question, but would love to see a medal for them. Xenon 1 Quote
FloMoParent Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 This is the most difficult time of the evening for me. All the finalists have played and now we are waiting on the exhibitions to finish. I am usually so nervous and anxious waiting on results that I can't just sit back and enjoy the performances in front of me. Quote

It is so hard going on that early in the morning, but tonight they showed exactly why they are who they are. Also, the Commandant's Own was Incredible! Feste Romane and Church Windows to no end! PSHSMom Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 LD Bell was great live. They sounded great and what I liked is they really did the show with just great marching, music and color guard. Not alot of props. Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 A little off topic but since there is no topic up for the contest, cedar park just narrowly beat vandegrift at the Texas marching classic. The shake ups continue Quote

natertater21000 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Wow....I have no words, other than I need to see this show. Quote
principalagent Posted October 9, 2016 Author Posted October 9, 2016 Everyone else really is playing for the silver this year. That show is built to win. EDIT: Flower Mound won every judge in prelims and all but one judge in Finals - 2nd by .1 in MPE to Hebron. Dominance. NTXBandFan and FloMoParent 2 Quote
Popular Post LKendrick Posted October 9, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2016 That kind of spread over the reigning for 10 years 6A State Champion, prior BOA Grand National Champions and finalists, and other amazing bands should shock the heck out of me. But watching finals online it was pretty obvious that Flower Mound is on another plane this year. That is NO detriment to the other bands because boy Marcus is clean and sounds amazing, Hebron sounds amazing, LD Bell has their best show since 2011 and performed really well, and James Bowie was outstanding...........but Flower Mound is performing the best I've ever seen a high school this early, and their show is perfection in terms of flow, GE moments, details, and how they're selling it. There isn't a weak spot. I'm not sure if they'll 4 point the field in San Antonio but I don't see them losing all year. They could VERY well be our 6A State Champion too. What is surprising to me is this show actually relies VERY little on gimmicks, prop usage, electronics, ect. It is AMAZINGLY well arranged and exciting music with fantastic drill that just flows and goes together effortlessly and they are performing it like the best. They're just straight up out marching and out playing everyone right now with a show that is so well put together it doesn't need a bunch of extras. I would place them 1st in any competition this year, including Grand Nationals. I don't see anyone touching them, and like I said it's not because the other bands aren't fantastic, Flower Mound just has the right combination of staff, students, design, and performance coming together in perfect Harmony. Incredibly stunning. takigan, HighSchoolBandNerd212, Xenon and 3 others 6 Quote
Anthony V Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I'm really diggin' the speed with which BOA puts up these recaps. Major props to the tabulator or whomever behind the scenes that sticks around to do so! Quote
txbandguy08 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Where is Rubisco? We need a dose of reality LKendrick and Principalagent are a lot of hype (exciting reviews but often miss the boat in terms of the bigger picture) Rubisco brings a refreshing perspective that has been missing on this board this season Congratulations to all the great bands in Dallas Quote
LKendrick Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I wouldn't be saying those kinds of things if I didn't mean them. The numbers agree.......and some people I know there definitely agree. What would you like to know? Quote
snares Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 A few notes: Flower mound. Wow. That's all that needs to be said. They're definitely the loudest band out there. By far the best GE band in the state. Marcus. Again. Wow. I know that there was a four point gap, but I've figured out really quickly to not at all compare BOA to UIL. I know this is a controversial subject, but if you look at the finals standings for some of the past BoA UIL years, (excluding 2012 when Marcus destroyed everyone) the results are almost completely different. That's why I'm not going to say Flomo is gonna win state. BOA San Antonio, I think they sealed that up. State however, they have two sister schools across the road that you KNOW are going to be clean and sound fantastic. I'm really really looking forward to Area, because that will be the only indication of who could take state. Right now, actually to me, I would have Marcus winning state. Flower mound has my favorite show wrapped up in a bundle, and there's no changing that. But just looking at purely what's on the field and the cleanliness of it, Marcus is stellar, of course Hebron is right there with them. Hebron is stronger visually this year than usual, but they have a few balance issues. And the articulation in that first woodwind feature is absolutely nuts. I don't see anyone touching LiSD in the top three this year, but I think it will be a roll of the dice to see who wins. sttng 1 Quote
snares Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Another thought: This is the fourth time Hebron has lost a placement by .1 or less, three times being .05 (not first place, just the place above them). Also, does anyone know how many times Marcus has place outside of the top two (at the BOA Dallas regional)? I know last year was one, but for the life of me I can't remember a time before that. Good to see them still up there Quote

They always give thoughtful and knowledgeable information and post opinions based on experience, knowledge, and relevance. I have great respect for their insight and even when I differ in opinion, I value their input. I think a lot of Rubisco's posts as well, but don't see the other two as lesser or short-sighted. Quote
LKendrick Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 If I had anything to critique or question about FloMo I really would. But I don't. I can with everyone else in the top 5 but not them. I'm sure anyone there would agree. That performance was really end of the season good and the show is top to bottom side to side back to front air tight. Quote
snares Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Seriously, can we just think about how dominate LISD could be at state this year? No one will touch flower mound at BOA. But state I'm predicting a UIL sweep Quote
~ME~ Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 That was insane. Flo Mo is going to absolutely STEAM ROLL Boa San Antonio. They might have tougher competition in Music and Visual there when the other bands have reached their late season form, but they're going to win GE by a country mile. That show design is as good as it gets and they perform the crap out of that show. Dominating like that in BOA with the crazy competition these days is just unbelievable. And seeing LD Bell that strong is really cool! It wouldn't have surprised me if they had medaled, and the same goes for Bowie. Really, REALLY good stuff from all of those finalists. Definitely the strongest "BOA DFW" finalist group I've ever seen from top to bottom. sttng 1 Quote
Nny14 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Agreed, as good as Reagan and Vandegrift are this year Flower Mound has San Antonio in its Talons. Well see about UIL after area. Can Flower Mound return to Nationals already? Need to show Tarpon Springs, Broken Arrow, and Avon what Texas is made of! whitewing09 1 Quote
snares Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I really wish BOA would rotate around Grand Nats sort of like PASIC. That way you don't have bands that go every year like it's nothing and other bands that go once every twenty if they're lucky sttng 1 Quote

trumpetdrumajorpower13 Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 I wonder if Flower Mound can top Marcus's record at San Antonio this year, it seems possible with the show design and performance quality their putting out at this point in the season. Quote
