cc123 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 On the bus right now and it's raining, is there a rain delay at the stadium? I live in Cypress and it's a bit cloudy, but hopefully it won't rain. So far no delays. Quote
dylan123 Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 is anybody there that can give an update on how bands are doing? Quote
trumpet.mom.dci Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Does anyone have a list of bands that are performing in Finals tonight? My wife is a Taylor alum and we can't find any Prelim results info! Quote
principalagent Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 They're still working through prelims for another couple bands. The announcement is slated for 8. Quote
imenriquez1 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Does anyone know the ten bands that made finals? Bulldogband2016 1 Quote
bandmom72* Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Seven Lakes, Clements, Langham Creek, Brazoswood, Friendswood, ClearBrook, Stepehen F. Austin, Cy-Fair, Cy-Falls, James E. Taylor Quote
king_leonides Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 So, if 8 bands advance to state, and there are 10 bands in finals, then each band has an 80% chance of advancing, correct? Or did I miss something? Quote
jmatthews Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Here's the website for Area E: http://www.uilforms.com/regions/13/AREA%20MARCHING/AREA%20MARCHING%20INFORMATION.htm More detailed scoring from prelims should be posted soon, hopefully tonight. I wasn't able to make it out to CFISD, so hopefully some of y'all have been watching all day today and can give us an idea of what's happening! Quote
principalagent Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Advancers in alphabetical order: Austin Brazoswood Clear Brook Clements Cy-Fair Cy-Falls Friendswood Langham Creek Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 It was a very stressful night, but very fun. Some very good bands performed tonight Quote
thebashful15 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Thoughts on tonight: Cy Fair's show was extremely well executed. Couple more weeks of cleaning and it is definitely UIL State (finals?) ready. They are fun to watch. That drumline really gets into it. Clements! Music is unbelievably played. Marching has really been cleaned. Friendswood, the resurgence. From 19th at Conroe to State, I knew their show would come in full swing. Seven Lakes. Still one of my favorites. I do think going on first was really bad for them, but they sounded great at finals. Loved the energy. Definitely a state level show. James E. Taylor. It was tough going on after Cy Fair, but I thought they really held their own. Their marching looked really pristine. Another show I would have loved to see at state. Overall, this Area E finals is a tough one. I did in fact feel that Seven Lakes and James E. Taylor could have replaced 2 other bands that made state, but will not mention those two. Nevertheless, Congratulations to all bands!! HighToes 1 Quote

It came off as the one show that was already attempting to look beyond where they currently were. 2. Agree on Friendswood. I had them in Top 5 and would not have assumed that going in.....I'm not even sure if I had them in Finals earlier this week....I might have. 3. I wanted Seven Lakes and JET to place higher....I thought they'd both be in the running. Quote
takigan Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Storing these here, because UIL will likely take them down eventually. 6A_Area_E_Prelims.pdf 6A_Area_E_Finals.pdf Quote

The band honestly has the potential. I was really upset to see Seven Lakes not go to state; I agree that they could have replaced other bands too. Quote

The top 5 for sure seemed to be the best bands at the contest. There was some variation between judges in the scoring, though not enough to make me think anything should be drastically different. I don't agree with your assumption that Friendswood would not even make finals. Is something different this year than in previous years? My assumptions going in was that Friendswood would be 4th-6th if not very clean and top 3 if clean. It seems like 4th would make sense based on those assumptions. jmans23 1 Quote
Astros Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I predicted all of the top 10. One judge for music saw things completely different than the other 2 music judges. C'est la vie 7 Lakes and Taylor. I thought you made it for sure! Different strokes for different folks. Quote
Fireball275 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Brazoswood was 2nd in Prelims and 3rd in Finals, yet nobody has said anything about them really? Did nobody really like their show or how did you guys feel about them? Quote
principalagent Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Brazoswood was one of the reasons I was glad I left F finals early. They were amazing. State finals will be hard but they looked really solid and sounded very strong. Fireball275 1 Quote
Fireball275 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Yeah, I saw a couple moments where they could phrase more, but the band this here has gotten extremely better since I first saw them at BOA Conroe Quote
camelmarch Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Anyone else feel that this showing relied a lot on name value? It seemed to me there were a few schools that didn't advance that sounded clearly better than a few of the advancing schools Quote

bandgeek900 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Found two area finals performance videos. Really enjoyed Seven Lakes' show. It's honestly such a shame they did not make it. I'm sure they would have fared well at state. Cy Fair's show was great. Really fast paced. Well deserving of a state spot. Seven Lakes: Cy Fair: Quote
