Xenon Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 34 bands on Friday and 29 bands on Saturday for 63 bands in Prelims starting at 8:30am on Friday and 7:30am Saturday. Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Some cool scheduling things allow for some easy comparisons. Vandegrift ctj and Reagan and nearly one after another and leander performs just before flower mound. So excited to see all of Saturday live. Wish I could catch Friday but hey college is important. principalagent Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 The schedule also allows for a lot of bubble band comparison too, which is also nice. Including: Westlake - Cedar Ridge Vista Ridge - Keller Central - Hendrickson - Dripping Springs Rouse - Churchill Oak Ridge - Keller Pretty much the first half of the middle block on Saturday too! My thoughts exactly...Could easily see that Vista/Keller Central/Hendrickson/Drip block finish 13-16th in any number of orders. Quote
snares Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 LD Bell, Hebron, Friendswood, Cedar Park and around Rock all got rough draws, wouldn't be surprised if their prelims scores aren't very high Quote

You just have to perform well whenever you are scheduled. At least this is a BOA event where the judging is fairly consistent. If they perform well, they will be fine. Besides, you just need to make the finals and then you can really worry about scores. Nny14 1 Quote
Nny14 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 While I'm sure it's a coincidence, it's nice to see Leander going second to last after what happened last year. Also excited to see how Hendrickson does here. I could easily see them in Finals. Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I'm really pulling for Hendrickson to make it in finals. The only thing I like seeing more than a first time champ is a first time finalist. alyglad87 1 Quote
dylan123 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 there are easily 20-25 bands that could make finals. anyone else think there should be some kind of semi finals performances? ben_goldstein3 1 Quote

That would push the contest to 3 days. Might be a little tough for most people to afford a 3-day competition both in time and money. Quote

This is in performance order so I just went through and based on what I've seen this year and previous years put them in a list. 1. Cedar Ridge 2. Westlake 3. Round Rock 4. Cedar Park 5. Dripping Springs 6. Keller Central 7. Hendrickson 8. Pflugerville 9. Vista Ridge 10. Cypress Falls 11. Westwood 12. Vandegrift 13. Claudia Taylor Johnson 14. Ronald Reagan 15. Winston Churchill 16. James Martin 17. Friendswood 18. Hebron 19. LD Bell 20. The Woodlands College Park 21. Pearland 22. Wakeland 23. Marcus 24. The Woodlands 25. Oak Ridge 26. Keller 27. Leander 28. Flower Mound Quote

There are just too many good great bands. If your band is not in the top 8 or so, it can vary extremely widely in terms of final placement. Finals, no finals, 25th place, etc. Quote
RcAaLvPiHeIsE Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Does anyone happen to know who all is judging this contest? Quote
LKendrick Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Music Panel - George Boulden, Darrin Davis, Wayne Dillon, Martin Griffin, Nola Jones, Matt McCready, Chuck Naffier, Dave Orser Visual Panel - Lee Carlson, Michael Gray, Adam Sage, Robert Solomon, Jim Sturgeon, Michael Turner Chief Judge - Richard Saucedo Quote
RoyalPride Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Will the 6A bands that make GN be able to attend both State and GN? I believe the schedule overlaps Txpharmguy 1 Quote
principalagent Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 They will all be fine. Their first performances in Indianapolis are all on Friday. Quote
Mash Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Yep, Leander for example heads from state directly to the airport for GN. Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Less than a week away now, anyone have new predictions after area? Quote
Txpharmguy Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 The only bands doing the UIL Area, BOA San Antonio, UIL State and Grand Nats are Reagan and Leander clarinetmaster 1 Quote
guardgirl17 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Can't believe this contest is less than a week away... So many good bands here, won't even try to make predictions. Quote
zururoua Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I have 12 near-locks and a ridiculously large amount of bands in the bubble to fill the last two spots. This competition only gets more competitive every year. Not to mention that there's only one week between SA and Gnats, so the Gnats bands are going to be much closer to peaking than a usual Gnats year, not to mention that a ton of really, really good non-Gnatters are ideally peaking at the same time. I wouldn't even be (that) surprised if there was only a 2 point spread for the entire top 10. Quote
littlejaw Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Your top 5 is most likely: Vandegrift Flower Mound Hebron Leander Marcus Followed by: CTJ Reagan Keller Bowie The Woodlands Then Finals up in the air between: Round Rock Vista Ridge Hendrickson Westlake Churchill Cedar Ridge LD Bell I would rank 1-14 as follows Vandegrift Flower Mound Hebron Leander CTJ Marcus Reagan Keller Bowie The Woodlands LD Bell Round Rock Hendrickson Vista Ridge Quote

They've beaten Vandegrift this season (yes, by a slim margin) so I think they would be in finals here. Quote
