takigan Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Let's hear them. Oh, and picking your own band is lame....give other bands some love Quote
natertater21000 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Well I can only go off what I've seen until San Antonio but right now one that sticks out in my head is cedar park. It's not the most original or innovative but it's just fun and I really enjoy it. Quote
bandit Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Duncanville and Coppell stole the show for me for Area B. Duncanville for just being a real fun show and Coppell for their music. And I am partial to my own band too (but I will not say who it is because I am not lame) Quote

D: lol, you've been watching every single BOA stream all the way through prelims haven't you? I don't think I could pick either. Anyway, I've seen almost all of the Houston heavy hitters, being that I saw every band at BOA Conroe and Area E Finals (still haven't seen some of the F bands like Spring and North Shore)....I've also seen the NEISD Trifecta (Churchill, Reagan, CTJ).....I still need to see Flower Mound, and most of the DFW schools and still quite a few of the Austin ones. Hopefully I'll catch a lot of them at San Antonio (I'm like 70% sure I'm going). So here are my favorites: Shows I'll definitely watch again: Reagan Claudia Taylor Johnson Shows I very much enjoyed and wouldn't mind seeing again: Klein Oak McNeil Brazoswood Cy Falls Cy Fair Other shows I really liked: SFA Pearland Oak Ridge Colleyville Heritage Quote
Anthony V Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 My favorite production (besides those towards which I have strong biases) is definitely Waxahachie's show. It really does an excellent job of bringing out their ensemble sound. IT IS SO GOOD. I could listen to them all day! It kind of reminds me of Hebron in 2010 all of a sudden they bloomed with that super rich dark sound. Likewise, Waxahachie's show really fits their ensemble this year. Quote
whitewing09 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I'd listen to it 10 times a day: FloMo I'd listen to it five times a day: Reagan, CTJ, CP, Bowie Show that will make me bawl: Leander Surprised me: Keller, Keller Central, Hendrickson, Churchill Excited to see via livecast, but haven't mentioned: THWS, Bell, Hebron Quote
Popular Post snares Posted October 30, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2016 I don't have a favorite show this year yet because I haven't seen many of the Houston bands yet, but as for what I have seen, Keller, Bell, Flomo, Hebron and Reagan are where it's at this year. One comment on Hebron vs. Flomo, they have completely different sound qualities. Flomo likes the high brass rich sound with synth presence where I feel hebron is more mello and low brass dominated, a little more blended. I can't decide whether I like more, Flomo sounds a little more like a Drum Core but Hebrons chords are more rich and powerful to me. Just some thoughts. So I guess I talked about favorite sounds instead of shows? Whatever. Anthony V, whitewing09 and takigan 3 Quote

Might be a long list though. The three that come to my mind instantly are: Flower Mound Hendrickson Leander More later... Quote
Gdav Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 You always have to watch out for Ronald Reagan and the Woodlands. CTJ pulled out of BOA San Antonio to head to BOA GN in Indy. Have heard that Coronado in El Paso is good, but I think the toughest competition will come from DFW. Flomo, Marcus and Hebron are way up there as usual, but be on the lookout for Keller too. Won their Uil region and Duncanville invitational last 2 weeks. Quote
Willie_Veenstras_Willy Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 At Houston Regional, CTJ, Reagan were amazing of course. Other than those, Woodlands College Park, Woodlands, and Pearland stick out in my mind. From Area E, JeT is out, so we're left with Fair, SFA, and Brazoswood as good ones there. Quote
LKendrick Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 This thread is about the shows you like, doesn't have to be restricted by placement/advancement. Quote

azn Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 It's hard to pick favourites when the only ones I have seen were the ten bands that made finals in UIL Area C Contest even then, I was just mindblown by all of the bands that it was hard to pick favorite. I was just in awe in each one. I know I almost cried because one of the bands actually made have the tears of joy and boyyyy and then there is FLOWEEEEEEEEEEER MOUND LIKE HOLLLLLY CRAPPPP. xD Quote

The flyovers (yes 2 of them) stretched from 30 to 30 and were as long as half the field was wide (hope that actually makes sense). I really enjoyed FloMo and Berkner's shows. Quote
ozzmodaus Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Flower Mound over all McKinney for surprise wow factor McKinney Boyd for music selection. Quote
Imagine Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Shows I would love to see again (from what I've seen thus far):Reagan. The music of their show just sticks with me. Their ballad is sublime. Hendrickson. Fun concept, quirky idea, and their sound is awesome. Bowie. Their show reminds me in many ways of their show that was about B's. Fun, bright and played very well. Shows I am looking forward to seeing how they've grown:Cy Fair. Really enjoyed their show at Conroe. Am looking forward to seeing how it's grown since then. The Woodlands. They performed their music impeccably at Conroe but the show overall felt unfinished (and it was). Shows I haven't seen but am looking forward to seeing:Flower Mound Hebron Marcus Vandegrift LD Bell Vista Ridge Clements Berkner Cedar Park Leander Quote
Cabbitt Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 CTJ- So much fun!, Hendrickson- Full, rich sound and the glasses are very cool. Reagan- Captivating! Great music. Quote

Mash Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I haven't seen bands outside of Area H or D in person yet, tomorrow I will. So I am not listing them. My faves(not including Vista) Leander (great concept and execution end to end) Westlake (not as strong as Leander but very enjoyable to watch) The front ensemble girl (gong/big drum) from Del Rio (I just loved her spunk! She stole the show for me and made me smile) Cedar Park (fun and great execution) Vandegrift (great brass section) Quote
vincentlee1220 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Vandegrift sticks out in my mind for several reasons. The most prominent reason is that I got blasted by live at BOA Austin and forgot for a moment I was listening to a high school band. Holy brass. Nny14 and akinez 2 Quote
