AvonDad Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 having a dog in the fight I'll forewarn possible bias. I'm looking for bands that march and play at the same time. Can they handle all the movement and keep the sound going so that if you are not watching, you couldnt tell the difference if they had parked. That was my background. Our kids are playing 170+ in the 2nd movement and over 192 at the end. With that said.... I missed Dobyns live. Union later it down. Very impressive and I would have to put them over Round Rock. Blue Springs is close and there was a lot of echoing Quote

AvonDad Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 dumb phone....a happening with them. I'd put Flower Mound over Marcus and perhaps squeeze The Woodlands in between. Very electric shows. Carmel is mostly solo and a heard a lot of electronics from our location midway up the 50. BA has the sound and power and their show is mostly in front of the hash and in your face. Avon had a great run tonight but their show style is so different than other. So here goes...Carmel BA Avon mixed in top 3. Still don't get Carmel, being honest. FloMo,Woodlands, Marcus. Union, Castle, Blue Springs, Round Rock, Marion, Dobyns. Quote

GE: BA Visual: Carmel Music: Marcus What an amazing last half of finals! Cool side note: Flower Mound hosted Avon for dinner when Avon was en route to San Antonio. The bands along with members of Marcus became friends. Flower Mound, Marcus, and Avon will be next to each other when they break ranks. Should be a great time. My daughter was so excited when she found out the order so when they break ranks they could all find each other. #teamTexAvon FloMoParent and LeanderMomma 2 Quote

bingogooberman Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Wow, Carmel becomes the first band to win all captions at grand national finals, though I can't say I agree with music (tie) win...at all....but congrats to them! jmartin1056 1 Quote

zururoua Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 No controversy or Ronald Reagan, so not exactly the typical Carmel win. Huh. Quote
Dosh24 Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Wow what a night! Props to Dobyns-Bennett for not only making finals, but creeping into the top half as well! Quote
Omega Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 So did Dobyns Bennett pull a Cedar Park? Waiting till the last second before doing something awesome? Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 I have to say, I'm shocked by Dobyns-Bennett and a bit surprised at Carmel, particularly that they won (tied to be precise) the music caption. I thought the music caption would have gone to Avon, Marcus, or Flower Mound for sure. Quote
Omega Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Okay for the record I was blown away by Flower Mound and thought they would take second but I might have missed something but I thought they had it for sure. Quote
Popular Post LeanderMomma Posted November 12, 2017 Popular Post Posted November 12, 2017 Congrats to the Indiana and Oklahoma winning bands. Great job Avon, tho I personally enjoy your show FAR more than Carmel, and wish you guys had won since a Texas band didn't. I'm starting to think that bands from Texas just don't have the formula needed to medal in the Midwest. But that's ok. I like our formula just fine, and the Texas way is ok in my book. Another marching season is in the books, folks. It's been a phenomenal year, and I've greatly enjoyed getting to know the people in this little (ha!) forum, both virtually and face-to-face. To me, that has been the real highlight from this season, and I'm so glad I got to experience it. I hope all of the GN bands have a super safe trip back home. I'll be saying extra prayers for that before I go to sleep tonight. I don't want to see any more memorial shows. Ever. Good night, friends. CTJBandPops, Mash, jmj and 2 others 5 Quote
Rubisco Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Two surprises. Dobyns-Bennett in the top half, and Marcus over Flower Mound. But besides that, no real surprises for me. Not even the music caption! Quote
WILKINSON Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 So, hypothetically speaking of course, if all 14 finalists from SA Super Regional had been here tonight, how do you all think finals would’ve looked tonight? Also, very interesting how Round Rock made finals here at Grand Nats but not at SA. The Woodlands placed higher at GN than at SA (they were much cleaner, yeah, but the bands above them at SA could’ve also been much more cleaner given a week.) *Posted this on MFA but figured it would be a spring board for conversation, especially in a Texas music centric board.* CTJBandPops 1 Quote

Lol Considering The Woodlands final score, Cedar Park, Keller, and Hendrickson could’ve possible knocked them out of finals... but then again this is a hypothetical situation Quote
