jcbg Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Any way-too-early thoughts (upsets, clear winners, bold predictions, etc.) for the 2017 season? Quote
Nny14 Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 With their current track record it's hard to not imagine that Flower Mound will be our 2017 national champions. Of course every year is a new year, but I would put them as a easy lock for a medal. Also excited to see how The Woodlands do next year. They surprised everybody last year with their 2nd place finish. If they repeat that growth we just might have two medals come to Texas. Marcus and Round Rock should do fantastic as well, 4 very strong finalists for Texas at nationals. Quote
Popular Post LKendrick Posted January 10, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 10, 2017 I'm still digesting 2016. D: cc123, jcbg, akinez and 1 other 4 Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 Vandegrift will be a scary band this year. I've seen their preview. It's nuts. And I don't think Avon will fare too well here. Of course I think they will make finals, but only for sixth or seventh place. Quote

Yes, Texas is good, but last year's 3rd place at SA was 6th (5th in semis) at nationals while Avon was quite a large margain ahead. I know it differs year to year, competition to competition, etc. But Avon is just one of those bands I don't see magically not being as good as they usually are. Plus them going to all the early BOA competitions can help them tweak the show however they need to score well. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Yeah although I am always going to think flomo is going to win hands down. Quote

With a non-zero probability, it can happen. Probably? nah. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 It all depends on what the judges think, am I right? Quote
zururoua Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 I don't see Flomo dropping too much but I do think they won't be as unstoppable as last year. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I don't know, they have been improving exponentially every year. Quote
zururoua Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Sure, but you could say the same for CTJ until after 2014. Things differ a LOT from year to year. Quote

CTJ is probably not the best of examples because they constantly have what I'd say is the hardest music + visual combo in Texas and they're constantly making it harder. I don't think they've plateaued, they just raise the bar higher every year. Quote
zururoua Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I suppose that's a good point, but I don't think other bands are going to just let Flomo keep steamrolling them for the third year in a row. Now that everyone has seen what can and must be done to win this year, it's going to be a LOT more competitive with everyone trying to replicate Flomo 2016's cleanliness. The execution bar has been set, it's just a matter of who else can reach it. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Yeah, hebron, TWHS, or Leander might be the ones that rise to the challenge. Quote
zururoua Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I'd love to see TWHS be as good as they were in 2013. When they're good, they're one of my favorite programs in Texas Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 I could see TWHS putting it out there this year, but they have a lot of work to do. Quote
zururoua Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 You can't forget that they stole GE from Flomo in prelims at SA last year. Quote
