BandG33k73 Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 What are your *early* predictions for state next year? How many groups make it from each area? Any wildcards for the new areas? Quote
principalagent Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Cedar Park wins. I would put a fair amount of money on that too, but I think some surging DFW groups could make me eat my words on that. I'm excited to see what Richland and Waxahachie do; they seem best poised to trip up Cedar Park, along with Dripping Springs. I think Prosper and Rouse will make some noise as well. Throw in Wakeland, who I'm sure will be back in style with a fully settled in staff, and Centennial, who has become a state finals fixture in this class. That's over half of state finals already Quote

We are looking definitely 4 a shot at 5 or 6 advancing on a REALLY good year depending on how many bands get ones. Changed up again so it's different than 2015. El Paso is back in along with Wichita Falls and such. There are over 30 bands in the area now. Canyon swept the central zone last time so they're a definite contender. Plainview is worth a look since they advanced in 2015. El Paso has a lot of heavy hitters, Bel Air, Hanks, and Del Valle are definite contenders. Eastlake has advanced before back in 2013 and Horizon is also another rising star for El Paso. Lubbock Cooper grew a TON in 2016 and is one I could see exploding onto the West Texas scene in the next year or two. I attended Area in 2015 and Abilene Cooper, Lubbock High, and Randall all really impressed me. Lubbock Monterey, Lubbock Coronado, and Amarillo High all moved down from 6A and could easily make things make things interesting and Caprock from Amarillo has seen a ton of improvement lately as well. It's going to be a very competitive contest next (school) year for sure. Quote
BandG33k73 Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 I think we're definitely gonna see some first time advancers next year with all the realignment. Quote

IMHO, they were gerrymandered to stay at 5A because of the football dominance at 5A. But that is just my humble opinion. Potentially over time Rouse High School will move up to compete with them. SamuelCulper Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Cedar Park High School is built for a smaller capacity than all of the other Leander ISD schools. Quote
aaron067 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 ^^^This. Their total enrollment is between 1700 and 1800, or it was last year at any rate. They only have a single CCC middle school feeding into them, so that number is as expected. I expect Cedar Park's high level of performance to spur the other 5A schools to up their game even more in the coming years, just as the Lewisville schools have done in 6A over the past 10 years. I definitely think we'll see Rouse rise to power over the next few years. Not trying to be prophetic (well, no....I totally am).....but I'm just going on record right now before the fact. The signs started to show last season. takigan 1 Quote

Musically especially they took a big step forward last year. They also have a fantastic guard IMO. I think things are looking bright for them. I have to think that Prosper has big plans for next year. I have a feeling they could move up to 6A the next go around alignment wise so this might be their big shot to make some noise on the state stage. I thought they were awesome last year, music performance especially. And hey......they're signed up for nationals. That usually has a way of motivating a band to really jump, especially when it's their first time from Texas (RE Cedar Ridge and Round Rock 2013). I feel like they have big plans. Quote
natertater21000 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Rouse is my most anticipated band to see in all honesty. I think they may even pass up vista ridge in the LISD ladder this year. They are in the prime place for a performance level boom much like vandegrift in 2013 and leander in 2014. There is nothing I love more (except I suppose the success of my alma mater ) than seeing a lower level band rise to great heights. Quote
BandG33k73 Posted April 28, 2017 Author Posted April 28, 2017 I think one band to watch also will be Chisholm Trail, they're signed up for 3 BOA events next year along with it being a state year. That may help them to get used to the tough state competition early if they were to advance again. Quote
jevvell Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Centennial could potentially place top 3 if their show is as powerful as 2015. That being said, a usual top contender could be thrown out of the mix. Any guesses? Quote

natertater21000 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 I wouldn't say having them in second would be underestimating Richland, they are good but as far as the 5A bands go cedar Park is on an entirely different playing field. I wouldn't be surprised if they win state with straight 1s. Quote

txbandslover123 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Richland at St Louis: 85.30 Cedar Park at San Antonio: 87.65 But Cedar Park performed at San Antonio 2 weeks after Richland performed at St Louis Quote
Xenon Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 You can't validly compare scores at two different contests (even if the same circuit) on two different weeks. The amount that the raw score is influenced by what how you compare to the other bands at the competition is very significant. Quote
natertater21000 Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Also you can see the obvious inflation of scores at that contest due to the fact that Union Actually scored lower at grand national semis three weeks after St Louis. whitewing09 1 Quote
