TRtrumpet Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Im planning on doing a trumpet solo, a trumpet trio, and a sax quartet (2 alto's, 1 tenor, and 1 bari). Im exited about the sax quartet cus we have amazing saxes. We havent picked out the songs were doin yet tho. Quote
arundo Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 im in a A LOT of ensembles and my solo is a concerto by Weber. Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Uhh, I haven't exactly started on it yet, because I'm working on region right now! Not to mention that my BD isn't sure about the clarinet solo he passed out (I don't like it, I'll change it if he keeps it) and he hasn't given us ensembles yet Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 4, 2005 Author Posted December 4, 2005 Yea we should be gettin our solo's and stuff next week. Anyone know any good trumpet solo's? Quote
coolest_kid_ever Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 does anyone have any ideas for a flute solo? my lesson teach hasnt been here... and he never ever talked about it. Quote
actualgirltrombone Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 i can't figure out how to get an ensemble together, personally. any advice? Quote
twizzlaar Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 i did Concert Etude by Goedicke on trumpet last year. It is probably the funnest trumpet solo ever in the history of music. i recomend it to any trumpet player that can double tongue pretty well. i was thinking about not doing a solo this year, but i think i have decided on Song of the Pines. I'll probably be in a trumpet trio. maybe Buglers Holiday?? Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 4, 2005 Author Posted December 4, 2005 Dude buglers holiday is awesome. Thats the one we were thinkin of doin for our trumpet trio too. Quote i can't figure out how to get an ensemble together, personally. any advice? Just get a couple of pple in you band that are interested. Find a good trumpet player, frech horn, or any other brass instrument player. Quote
Fortisimo Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 I would love to get three other trumpets (or just other brass instruments) and perform a contrapunctus from Bach's Art of Fugue.... Quote
Skippy Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Every year we have an amazing horn quartet, easily the best ensemble from our school. The past two years we have played different Fripperies, but I gotta pick something new and fresh for us to do this year. Quote
stewiemylove Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 im tempted to do vivaldi concerto for bassoon in e minor... its intense, so i dunno. Quote
euro_euph06 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Solo: Partita (I'm playing all three movements) by Walter Ross Ensembles: Euphonium Trio: Manhattan Vignettes Five Person Brass Ens: West Side Story Quote

TRtrumpet Posted December 6, 2005 Author Posted December 6, 2005 We just get together with who ever you want to do it with. Quote
sax5warrior Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 assigned...never heard that...weird...well my school gets to choose whoever Quote
viccro Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Ooh, I did Song of the Pines last year...I got a 2, but it was just barely... :-) This year I've got Andante et Alegretto...and am looking for trumpet trio music! Quote
itsstephenyo Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 im torn between about 10 different solos to do. seriously. perhaps some sax people could help me choose between these... concerto- Henri Tomasi (if someone has a recording, thatd be really sweet) concerto- Ingolf Dahl concerto- pierre max dubois duo- hartley prelude, cadence, et finale- desenclos (probably not.. not on the PML and it'd be really hard to find a pianist that good) caprice en forme de valse- bonneau improvisation et caprice- bozza Quote
Skippy Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Does anyone know of any great, difficult french horn quartets? In past years we've played 2 of the 3 Fripperies by Shaw that are on the PML list, and the 3rd one sucks, so we need something else. Quote
elementwrx Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Aaron, try Mozart's "Overture to the Magic Flute." Assuming it's played up to tempo, and you have a rockin 4th horn player (the 4th part is mostly all in bass clef), this piece can be REALLY fun, although really difficult. It's a lot of fast 8th note stuff, so it tends to drag a lot. Quote
thesnareguy Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 im doin Rhythm Song for 4 mallet marimba. my first four mallet solo. i did a three mallet ensemble,"Metric Lips" and "Funky Fat" for snare. Im really looking foward to Solo and Ensemble. Quote
Xukaniz Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Playing Buegler's holiday in a trio. I am not sure what I am playing for a solo yet. I played a piece last year called Concerto in F by Oskar Bohme. You dont have to memorize to go to state it if you play the 1st or 3rd movement (I played the 3rd) Quote

I'll make them write in the notes or something. Quote

So far I think were doing either "Fantasies of Mexicac folk songs" or some other song that I forgot the name of... Im still lookin for sax quartet music though. I got a 1 doing "Arioso from Cantana" on the alto last year. Quote
Keyboard_Countessa Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 For my solo I'm doing a 4-mallet piece called Monograph IV. As for my ensemble... I have no idea. Our percussion director handles all the percussion ensemble stuff, but he hasn't given us any music yet and probably won't until after the holiday break. Quote
MartinHorn Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 I'll probably find a way around playing a solo. Quote
