Babette Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I'm doing a solo, flute quartet, and woodwind choir. I only have my music for my solo though. It's called Sicilienne and it's by Gabriel Faure`. I can play it, but I'm not real sure about it yet. Quote
G'townPIT Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Quote Playing Buegler's holiday in a trio. for our post uil/boa concert we're play bugler's holiday with 3 bassoons and band accompanying us. you just read the trumpet part in tenor clef and it works out pretty sweet. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 k i figured out that im doing Dubois Concerto on alto sax... for now i told my lesson teacher that i'd learn only third movement but now im kinda thinking over learning all of it... thatd be insanely hard tho... 18 minutes of really difficult solo literature edit: i think our sax quartet (actually a quintet for this piece) is doing flight of the bumblebee. haha its actually a pretty good arrangement for it. TRtrumpet Posted December 22, 2005 Author Posted December 22, 2005 Were doing a pretty easy trumpet trip. I think its called "3 of a kind" or somethin like that... lol. Our director wouldnet let us do a class one cus our 3rd trumpet is a french horn tryin to play a trumpet. We didnt have any other high school trumpets besides me and another girl. I doin a class one solo though. Quote
bariphonium Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 3 of a Kind is an easy trio. I did that a couple of years ago, and enjoyed it. Your 3rd trumpet shouldn't too hard of a time. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Yea I though it was pretty easy to, lol but its a fun song. Hmm were still looking for a good sax quartet song. Anyone know any good ones? Quote
itsstephenyo Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 dubois quatour is a really really quartet. somewhat difficult but sounds really awesome. hit me up if u want a recording of it. Quote
HashBrownJM Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Shepherd's Hey by Grainger It looks like it'll be crazy challenging and fun. By the way, it's been a while since I've been on the site (haven't been able to design graphics since I had some... computer troubles), but the site is shaping up to be something awesome! How's everyone else doing/feeling about the site's improvements? Quote
HashBrownJM Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 Fortisimo said: I would love to get three other trumpets (or just other brass instruments) and perform a contrapunctus from Bach's Art of Fugue.... Oh, if you do anything, do Contrapunctus IX. My friends and myself got that about three weeks before S & E last year, and we still got a 1. I'm not saying it's really easy, but man, it is a total blast to play. The last chord... ::drool:: Quote
PrideOfPearland Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 I'm doing Selanka Pastorale by Zdenko Fibich. as my solo. (B flat clarinet) Quote

Xukaniz Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Solo: Haydn - Concerto in Eb Ensemble Wise.... Bugler's Holiday Quote
TRtrumpet Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 Buglers Holiday seems popular. Quote
bored2damax Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Um i play a baritone and i might do a solo between Minuet-Scherzo by Joseph De Luca if it is on the list . If it is not on the list im probably going to play Beautiful Colorado (Valse Caprice) by Joseph De Luca. Wow that was kind of ironic, i didnt even notice till now that both solos were written by the same composer. thats just really weird. Quote
Xukaniz Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Its a very popular trumpet trio, but you need 3 excellent ones to pull it off. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 Well me and my section leader are totally up for it, but were the only high school trumpeters.... the rest are crappy junior high. Quote
Keyboard_Countessa Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 We finally got our ensemble music this week. "Fugue in G" by Bach. It's an all-mallet ensemble, and I get to play vibes. Quote
artishard Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 for solo, i'm either playing Concertino for Horn by Carl Maria von Weber, or Sonata for Horn by Bernard Heiden[really contemporary in contrast to the rest of the french horn music..] and they're both extremely hard songs to play well.my lessons teacher is getting me En Foret just for fun sometime soon, maybe i'll play it next year : ] Quote
davidpowell Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 The Heiden sonata is HARD to play all the way through, pretty high tessitura. Personally, the 3rd movement is one of my favorite things ever. I, an ohioan, am playing Villanelle for our solo and ensemble contest. Gotta' get my high chops workin' again after I get my low ones in shape for 4th horn at all state. Sheesh. Quote
sax5warrior Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 for solo im playing "Three Latin Moods" and for ensemble its "Prelude and Fugue" Quote
Trumpet Master Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 My Mariachi did Bugler's Holyday last year for our End of the Year Concert. The "Holy-day" thing is an injoke at my school, because our music actually says that. lol Quote
iplayband07 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I'm either doing Concert Etude or the Haydn Concerto in Eb. most likely the 1st movement of the haydn and i'm doing the Canadian Brass arrangement of Fugue in G minor in a brass quintet. Quote
rebelhorn07 Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 for solo I'm doing Villanelle by Dukas and for ensemble I'm doing Quintet for Woodwinds by Cheetham Quote
Aegis Fang Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I'm going to do Song of Pines for my solo (class 1) and also gonna do Bugler's Holiday. Quote
