Xenon Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 https://yea.org/news/1663-introducing-new-usbands-southwestern-championships-at-at-t-stadium-in-dallas On October 21st, 2017, USBands will be holding the first ever marching band competition to be hosted in the Cowboys' AT&T Stadium. They are targeting enrollment to be "up to 60" bands. This is the week before 1A/2A/3A/5A Area on the same day as several UIL Region competitions, so we will have to see about attendance. Quote
bingogooberman Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I've noticed more and more regions moving their UIL competitions to weekday evenings, and I could also see plenty of bands double booking this with UIL, just for the opportunity to play there. USBands isn't my favorite in terms of judging rubrics but this seems like a great season ender for smaller programs and a good warm up for State/super regional for some bigger programs Quote
whitewing09 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 How will this venue be in terms of acoustics? Quote
hippkerr Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Does this open the door for a BOA/DFW super regional? How did they get AT&T Stadium? Why does the DFW BOA regional skip venues around so much? Quote

BandG33k73 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 what do you think the chances are we see a band like Marcus or Flower Mound attend? ChristopherRoden 1 Quote
jmj Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I can't imagine many of the BOA regulars attending this. Many will be at UIL region. And that stadium has the worst stadium acoustics I've ever experienced. Sound just disappears in there. FloMoParent 1 Quote
BandG33k73 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 How many finalists can we expect? I'm not too familiar with the usbands format. Quote

If they're planning on accommodating 60 bands at a one day competition, I suspect there might not be a finals. Otherwise i think they take 15? Idk, usbands is hard to follow Quote

They won't be there. From what I understand USBands is a completely different scoring system than BOA. I saw the list of bands competing and really didn't recognize hardly any of them. If the Carroll is Southlake Carroll then they should do OK. I saw them at UIL a couple years ago and they put on a good show. They have rec'd a 1 rating the last few years at UIL region Quote
bingogooberman Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Would imagine Lafayette, LA wins this one- though they aren't quite what they used to be so I suppose they may have some challengers Quote

USBands can certainly create surprises and we may see a band really step up and exceed expectations. Quote
FerrisHalliwell Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Prelim scores from Group 3 (Anna, Del Valle, and Liberty-Eylau) 3rd place: Anna HS (82.6125) - Caption awards for Percussion and Music 2nd place: Del Valle HS (82.6375) - Caption award for Colorguard 1st place: Liberty-Eylau HS (82.75) - Caption award for Overall Effect LE moves on to finals as well. I'm not sure if Anna or Del Valle do. I don't really know much more because that's all that was posted to LE's page. Quote
NETexasBandFan Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Awards were scheduled for 10:15, does anyone have the results or will we have to wait until USBands updates them online? https://trigonroad.com/yea/eventDetail.cfm?searchState=&eventID=1821 Quote

Hard Core Band Fan Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 On 10/22/2017 at 4:55 PM, Danpod said: Correct! Okay, I thought so. I'm old, so I go way back to where most of the marching bands in this part of the country marched military style. In the early to mid 70's, we kept hearing about this awesome "corps style" band in Lafayette - Acadiana HS. We had a week with no football game, so we drove to Lafayette to watch them at their halftime to see what all the excitement was about. They were awesome and it changed all of our lives forever! After then, military bands just seemed less exciting and left me wanting something else. Kind of like eating cookies with half the sugar all of your life and then eating one with all of the sugar. Those half-sweet cookies just don't satisfy you anymore. Quote
FerrisHalliwell Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Liberty-Eylau did a lot better than I expected them to here, even though they did come in last in finals, but they were really motivated at this contest as well (they were really quite upset after UIL and were pretty hellbent on proving them wrong in a way), as well as putting on the best show they've done in years. I'm proud of them. And congratulations to the winning bands as well! I know I didn't see their shows, but I bet they were awesome. Quote
