I was going to post this over at Music For All, but the lack of apostrophes was infuriating. Probably, I should have posted it into Notepad first, like I did to fix the formatting issues here. Also, tagged as spam. Go figure!

Man - you took up a lot of space - but glad you shared- some great thoughts on some great shows - looking forward to seeing them all in the dome

"Top groups I mentioned earlier." Sorry, that was on the Music for All forums. I mentioned 9 groups I thought you could just throw darts at for placements. That group included all of the above + Keller. I haven't seen a performance from Keller since the DFW regional, so I'll refrain from commenting on them for the time being!

I have other favorites, like Bowie, that I'll probably comment on later, as well.

I quoted this one only because it's way shorter but to comment on the leander show analysis there is some romance there but it really is still just playing off of the opposites. I honestly think leanders ballad is the best example of music effect this season so here's a breakdown.

Ballad begins with a horn player(brass soloist) playing you are my sunshine BUT in a minor key and he is accompanied by a Woodwind choir. We then move to an Oboe solo (Woodwind soloist) playing moon river accompanied by a brass choir. Then both soloists and choirs build to the romeo and Juliet love theme as we see a male band member and a female guard member (still opposites) run across the field to meet one another. As they do this all the woodwinds along side 1 change to the visual shape the brass were in on side 2 and vice versa. From an arranging and visual design perspective it's top notch imo.

Keller was lights out at Area B.  Easily the strongest show that they have had!

Rubisco, I’m curious based on your descriptions, (which were brilliant by the way), what your predictions would be. From what I read, you seem to claim each show has a HUGE winning aspect to it, but at the same time it has something that keeps it from being a winning program.

This is one of the bands I am most excited to see.  I have not had the pleasure of experiencing Keller's show yet this season, and I am READY!

I did the "painstaking" job of finding videos and watching all of the top 50 groups from BOA San Antonio 2017, so I thought I would make my predictions for who will be in the gunning for top 50 instead of just finals. So many great shows that get overlooked, especially once you get passed the top 30.

This is amazing! Thank you for doing this! Well-done!

Yes, they don't announce which judges make up which panel in advance, but it's pretty easy to tell who is on the field judging, and I can usually scope out who is in the box with a zoom lens. We'll post the panels here once we decipher.

Okay. Thank you!

I disagree tbh. I think the strongest show they have had was ascend in 2016. That show left me jaw dropped !

While good, I though that that show was extremely easy in the visual program and struggled heavily in GE. Music was great though. Now they have a full package and have realllllly ramped up the difficulty of everything. 2017 seemed like a stepping stone and even though the visual execution was weaker and there were some design flaws, they still placed 9th. Their consistent improvement is almost unprecedented so they have the opportunity to surprise people I feel.

I think the two groups that come to mind when I think of member by member visual execution is Keller and Marcus. These are the best groups between sets, from a “if I were still running around the field and visual teching” perspective. (Also from a DFW/Austin bands perspective, because those are all the bands I know best)

I think Keller has been improving in show design to pump the GE scores. If Marcus hits that sparkle that they’ve always had then they will be top half.

This should be a really fun super regional, so many great bands to see.

Keller's ascent show is (in a biased opinion) the most inspiring show I have ever seen. However, this years program is on a whole new level. I really loved the performance at DFW, but I heard that they have basically a completely new show now. A video is floating around of the first half of their area B finals performance and I agree that it has changed and improved so much! I love that Keller always waits until the very end of the season to tie their show together because it allows even their supporters that watch them every week to be awed and "in the moment" during the performance that matters most.

I am sooo excited for tomorrow and reading all of your great comments are only making me more anxious. I am working a few hours in the morning tomorrow and it will be torturous knowing what I am missing!

I’m so sad I won’t be there tomorrow ! It sucks but I have to work . But I am leaving right after I get off work and I’ll be there from beginning to end Saturday . And I cannttttt wait. Really excited to see Keller and everything they have done . Timber creek And that hot line. Vandergrift and the incredible music they produce . Flomo . Like yesss .... vista ridge I’m thrilled abot . And I really can’t wait to see the woodland , prosper ,haltom and ctj in that last block of finals .

Prosper is just awesome this year and I see bright things for them next week at nats . Haltoms visual program is incredible . Hopefully they have a stellar performance and take a finals spot . And ctj blows me away every year. And I have to say my favorite marching show ever is ctj 2014 !!!

And the woodland is a group I’ve heard amazing things about and can’t wait to see . All of Saturday is going to be incredible and I really think people are gonna be shocked with some groups who make their way to finals . Oh and LD Bell. I love their show design this year

I described them roughly in the order that I prefer them going into the contest. But, I don't feel so strongly about where the shows belong that I would find it unreasonable for some other educated person to mix the order up. There will be about an extra week of cleaning for the groups, plus the venue change (which is a big consideration), so even my own opinions might change after watching San Antonio.

And yes, I am now Atropos on the Music for All Forums. I've been on the BOA forums under different names for about 2 decades. I used to post essays on contests all the time, but I don't really have the energy to do it as much these days.

I was supposed to attend this weekend but unfortunately had something come up so I will be unable to attend. Good luck to all the bands, I will be watching it on Flomarching.

Can I get a few people to do some extra absentee cheers for Plano East for me
