5 te 6 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 How will the judging panel for finals be composed? Parkwoodmom 1 Quote
CharpieAg Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I thought Bowie’s performance was off compared to their area show. Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Winning the captions doesn't really matter when it comes to placement. Only the differential between bands in the various captions. Even though GE is worth 60% of the score, you will find that the scores tend to still stay at about the same differential away from each other as the music and visual scores do, just in the 50 range instead of the 15 range. Also, Cedar Park didn't make finals despite being in Panel 1, which I believe all 4 of next four came from, so that didn't keep them out. Wasn't there supposed to be a head judge (or two) that made sure the panels were even? Quote
CharpieAg Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 And to be honest, what do you expect? It sucks for some bands who got left out but it’s a contest you have to pay to participate in. Quote
Aardvark in NB Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Does anyone know if Hebron got a penalty? That would push down their overall score without affecting their captions, right? Quote

True. And Cedar Park was in the "high" panel and still didn't make it. Guess well see how it all plays out now Quote
BenedictCucumberpatch Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 The Next Four out of the top 5 in each panel were LD Bell, Hendrickson, Marcus, Westlake. Quote
Popular Post A Testing Trumpet Posted November 3, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 3, 2018 As sad as it is to see Cedar Park, James Bowie, Round Rock, Timber Creek, Seven Lakes, Oak Ridge, Pearland, Winston Churchill, Haltom, Westwood, Coppell, Hays, and Prosper out of finals, I cannot say that it is anything surprising given how much the regional has become a monster. There is nothing to be ashamed of in not making Finals. What matters is if you gave it your all on the field, and if you did that; then you have nothing to feel but pride in your own performance. Rubisco Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Finals should be interesting, since everyone will get the same panel. Panel 1 looks like it ran high in prelims. What we can tell from this is that Flower Mound was on top in panel 2. A little surprising for me, but not that much. Certainly, it's justifiable. The biggest non-finalist surprise is definitely Bowie. Panel 2 casualty? I'm interested to see how the top half/bottom half gets affected. Quote

GE is also 60% of the score, so they might just be behind in that according to the prelims judges. I'm sure the scores are razor thin. Quote

principalagent Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Even if Panel 1 threw off the captions a little and had decent influence on the finalists, the top 7 are pretty much as I would have called them. VERY happy to see Vista Ridge in the top half! I will do some history booking when I am back at my laptop after drinks. Nny14 and LeanderMomma 2 Quote
BenedictCucumberpatch Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I’m quite surprised to see TW in the bottom seven. Any others as surprised as I am? Parkwoodmom 1 Quote
Popular Post MadisonBandMan1 Posted November 3, 2018 Author Popular Post Posted November 3, 2018 Wow. This is a testament to how insane this competition is. I can’t wait until recaps are posted tonight. Also, I noticed this thread is very likely to pass last year’s record number of posts. That’s really cool. FloMoParent, bigfishv and Parkwoodmom 3 Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I cannot say that I am given the competition. (Regarding The Woodlands) Quote
Rubisco Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Even with the panel differences, I'm surprised to see The Woodlands outside of the top 7. I would have guessed that the performance qualities alone would have put them in, but if the judges are cold to the show, they're cold to it. Quote
Bassesbringthe_ Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 To place top 8 in order is insane.... this is all too close Quote
Popular Post GeekyBandMom Posted November 3, 2018 Popular Post Posted November 3, 2018 If nothing else this contest is very humbling. I'm sure the scores are insanely close. A testament to how fantastic our school programs are. Texas bands really are amazing. Can't wait for finals! A Testing Trumpet, FloMoParent, Parkwoodmom and 1 other 4 Quote

I’m curious to see the scoring when it comes out- but it is what it is.. doesn’t matter where we end up tonight- we feel like the kids have done an amazing job this year and are proud of them. Band2013 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I can honestly say that I am not surprised this contest is extremely competitive, the final 14 just proved to be insanely impressive. Some notes: Marcus: Seeing a finals without them would be weird, it will be along time before that happens. L.D. Bell: Wow great to see them back in finals, similar to Marcus but they are on their way back! Westlake: Real Big Surprise! but I said it earlier, they deserved that third-place finish at area, good for them! Keller: They have become a regular, loved their 2016 show "Ascend", we will see where they land tonight. Hendrickson: Like I said very well rounded group and peak late in the season which always helps them land in finals. Cedar Ridge: Music is insane on this group, I know they are not a fan favorite but they play to the judges, which is why they make it. The Woodlands: in my opinion one of the best shows in finals both beautiful and exciting! CTJ: wow they can move while sounding like they are sitting! Their show has tons of GE, which always helps at this contest. Leander: They have made it back where they belong, last place in finals did not suit them well. Great work! Hebron: UHHH what this show is by far their most challenging yet! they should have gone to nationals! Vista Ridge: Why are you so Amazing? they went from underdog to a triple threat, be watching this one next year. Vandegrift: They knocked me out of my seat when they hit those whole notes! they keep getting better, one critique: they need a guard that matches the group. Reagan: My favorite this year, they are a band that's always under the radar but just might take home the gold this year! Flowermond: Strong and have the ability to win, Leonardo's Dream was their best show but they have kept up enough to land them in another medal. Parkwoodmom 1 Quote
