I don't generally read that Area's thread. I'm just letting you know I have seen a trend in some of your comments. You sometimes see attacks where others just see opinions when it comes to CTJ. Your responses are more measured when questionable comments are made about other bands and it gives you more credibility. Just an opinion to consider, not intended as an attack. I appreciate your comments - and I do not see it as an attack. I will always support the program I believe in and we can leave it at that always enjoy the discussion Quote
Popular Post Nebp Posted October 30, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2018 To set the record straight....there should have been a ? At the end of my last statement. I was simply asking for clarification. I do not understand judging especially UIL. Also please remember the old saying " the king is dead long live the king" simply refering to the fact that 1 band was on top after last year and a new one was rising this year. Competition is what makes things better it fuels greatness. With out great competition things grow stale. I have been witness to some of the best performances by marching bands over the last several years. The fact that the bar is raised every year is a testament to the hard work of the students and staff at ALL the schools. Some of my negative comments in other threads were based on comments I heard in the stands at other competitions. Thise I will not elaborate on as they do not bear repeating. Everyone seems on edge and so ready to pounce. I really have no skin in the game just enjoy the marching arts. 1998-2018, Vidal28 and whitewing09 3 Quote
david19c Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Here’s Vista Ridge’s show from area finals if anyone was wondering where all the hype was coming from: I saw them at area H last weekend and I was absolutely blown away. Quote
LHSax Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Whew, that escalated a lot more than I thought it would for what I thought was a pretty objective post.... Just trying to say that, just like comparing scores from competition to competition, it’s also impossible to compare scores from year to year, and I tried to give a reason that I think that is the case. If scores from year to year were comparable, we’d have to have bands scoring 130’s at this point considering how much better these shows are than they were 10 and even 5 years ago (although I’m getting to that age where I’ve been tempted to type...”but shows back in my day”... and “they don’t make shows like they used to”) As many have said already, this is not a slight on CTJ’s big score last year, they certainly earned it. But I don’t think there were 7 shows last year that were better than FM 2016, as the slightly inflated scores would suggest. CTJBandPops and 1998-2018 2 Quote

That is an excellent observation and an insightful way of highlighting the scoring paradox. Quote

That is a stunning improvement over last year, especially when you know how good they already were. What a breakthrough. It will be pure pleasure to see them twice (hint) at BOA SA. Looking at the drill design, do you think they might be aware there is another big contest a couple days later? Quote

I think the new band director pick up was a good free agent pickup for the season. This isn't even his show, so it will be interesting to see what happens when he gets input into developing the show for next year. The middle schools that feed Vista (and the other LISD bands) are phenomenal so musically, they have a great base just coming in. LeanderMomma 1 Quote

Mash Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Would it be against UIL rules to hand out Kleenex prior to the show and turn the four boxes on the field into giant Kleenex boxes? "Vista Ridge's show brought to you by Kleenex, we will soak up your tears of joy!" :-) Quote

daldhowe Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 I've noticed some bands, ie;...Vista Ridge and Timber Creek.....perform their shows without headgear. Is that a new trend? Just curious. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 Can someone please take the time to post this entire competition on the predictions page? Quote

While uniforms are definitely changing I don't think sans headgear will really become prominent. Quote

Like Nny14 said above I doubt it'll ever become the norm, but when it works in a show it really works! Quote

There's just no 15 minute break between changing panels for that last block. Who are the Judges when Leander performs? Quote
principalagent Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Plumage also makes visual individual errors really obvious from up top. Not using them might be good for a specific show design, but are also potentially a good way to hide errors. natertater21000 1 Quote

Amazing to be growing larger after just 2 years in 6A. Thank you to everyone for all your support. It's been an emotional journey as each of us can relate to being lost, and hopefully, found. principalagent, LeanderMomma and BandlifeX2 3 Quote
