BandFriendzz Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Anyone else notice Tom Glenn and Ann Richard's looking a little suspiciously phenomenal in the BoA San Antonio predictions? It’s because people are putting them1-10 to gain those points b_radon_inSA 1 Quote
BandFriendzz Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Ahh, so that's why people do that! Yups it’s quite dumb tbh Quote
Parkwoodmom Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I’m excited to read any comments today; I love seeing everybody’s response to not only our show, but everybody else’s as well. It’s like reading a well-written book. I really enjoyed your show! The music, the colors, the props! I’m not a judge by any means, but I know what I like. Kudos. MadisonBandMan1 1 Quote
MusicGuy Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Until today I had never seen Rouse's show. I am blown away by the sound quality they are able to maintain at louder dynamics. Their control is outstanding. My 2A favorite so far, and they may even be capable of more than that. Quote
LKendrick Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Rouse was incredible live. They sound SO GOOD. Quote
hehe Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 So I found Seven Lakes's prelims run in the depths of YouTube, and its,,, stunning. It's a Flo Marching recording so it isn't the best quality but you still get the gist. bandgeekofthecentury 1 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Ugh, my goal was to make it for Rouse, but I only caught the end of their show and the sound on FloMarching seems really quiet today. I have it all of the way up and can still hardly hear ANYTHING. Has anyone had this issue? Quote

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. I personally love this show so much. I’m sure I would cry during the ballad if I were sitting in front of it. Quote
LHSax Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Westlake - the best kept secret in CenTex. Love the new direction they’ve taken this year. Would definitely consider them a dark horse to sneak in. jmfeldman 1 Quote
takigan Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 It’s because people are putting them 1-10 to gain those points There's always a couple people in every prediction which puts their band in every spot which skews their ranking a little in the analysis. I think in Ann Richards' and Tom Glenn's case it's a conspiracy of sorts ("Hey everybody, make an account and go vote so our band rises to the top of the list!"). We might need to look into tweaking the system in the future so you can't do that. Quote
BandL0v3r Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Did anyone see Round Rock? How did they do? Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 From what people are saying their Musical package was solid, but the weak visual package the show itself has makes it hard to say either way if they will make Finals. I do think they have a shot at it, but it wasn't an undeniable performance. Nothing to be ashamed of either way; it's a great band that executed their show at a very high level! Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 If they get left out I would assume it to be because of Visual General Effect. If they get in it's because of Musical clarity and Visual Execution. Quote
Dband2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Round rock alumni here, how did our show look from the stadium? We had a really terrible run both visually and slightly musically, but do y'all think it was still good enough to get in finals? Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I wasn't in the stadium itself so I couldn't tell you first hand. I do think that the band is in a very similar situation as last year though where both '17s and '18s Visual packages hurt them a fair bit. It '17 it was because there was so much Visual GE that it became confusing to gauge and it made it hard to judge Visual execution. This year it is the other way around. Visual Execution is prioritized over Visual GE to do better in UIL. It is difficult to say either way really. Quote
Rubisco Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Much cleaner performance from Vandegrift than at Area. There wasn't really a whole lot of obvious dirt until the last few moments, but it's so hard there at the end that you have to be a bit forgiving. Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 If I had to choose I would say they have a higher chance than last year, albeit very slightly. Quote
Band2013 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 First Three Blocks Stand Outs Block 1: Hendrickson: They set the stage for the rest of the contest, a well-rounded group, show seems to lack from last years but still great. (Possible Finalist) Block 2: Seven Lakes: Great Show and seem's to be well executed, they are certainly on their way up. Block 3: Cedar Ridge: This group has amazing sound quality for their size, their percussion is outstanding those left hands are no joke! may be hurt by general effect however, it is so good musically would be surprised if they don't make finals. (Possible Finalist ) Round Rock: Musically very strong and always pushes the general effect may help them slide into finals. (Maybe Finals) Westlake: is a band that never ceases to amaze me, they deserved that third-place finish at area. hehe 1 Quote
BandoFando Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Wow. Vandegrift was incredible! The only complaint I have is one I have had for years but I don’t really like the dance team/colorguard combo that they have going. I think the guard work is easily over classed by a lot of finalists level bands. Their visual performance just isn’t as immersive as their music in my opinion. hehe 1 Quote
hehe Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 So what bands are wild cards this year? For me, I have Haltom, Hendrickson, LD Bell, Cy Fair and Seven Lakes as possibilities for the last few final spots. Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Did anyone else find it a bit strange that Legacy of Educational Excellence depicted their guard actually aiming their rifles at each other and one of them killing another one? I just thought it was very un-PC for a school that literally changed their name to something so long and difficult to say in an attempt to be PC. I dont meant this to offend them. I just found it quite odd because until now I have never thought of the rifles really as weapons. Quote

Rubisco Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Watching from high cam, I thought Vandegrift both looked and sounded better than Flower Mound from a technical standpoint, but I do think Flower Mound had the more interesting and effective show. Also, it should be noted that half of the ensemble visual caption is devoted to visual artistry, so it's not about pure cleanliness. Quote
Majellan Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Okay, John b Alexander has impressed me. Beautiful show, never have seen them perform before. I was feeling bad for them that they had to follow up Fliwer mound but they’re holding their own:) I like flower mound so far, but vadegrift was great. Quote
