jmartin1056
I have to say I have a lot of questions. Congrats to everyone who made it though!
LostChoirGuy
Wow, no Cedar Park or Bowie. But, Congrats to Westlake and LD Bell for returning to finals!

snares
Has anyone thought about how much different BOA would be if GE wasn't so much of the score? As it stands I believe that Visual is 20%, Music is 20%, and GE is 60%. I know for a fact that GE has an achievement and quality aspect to the scoring, but what if the three captions were evenly split in weight of score? Just food for thought. I know I've been a part of and heard many conversations about this on this forum, but FloMo beating Hebron without winning a caption makes me really wonder 1) how off was the two-day system panel judging and 2) how close was GE for those top bands? Bandouts149
I feel bad for the Timber Creek kids. Hope they come out stronger next year! Scur
bingogooberman
i mean its 8 from panel 1, 6 from panel 2, that doesn't seem that out-balanced to me. the only major casualties from panel 2 are Bowie and Seven Lakes.
5 te 6
How will the judging panel for finals be composed? Parkwoodmom
CharpieAg
I thought Bowie’s performance was off compared to their area show.
LostChoirGuy
Winning the captions doesn't really matter when it comes to placement. Only the differential between bands in the various captions. Even though GE is worth 60% of the score, you will find that the scores tend to still stay at about the same differential away from each other as the music and visual scores do, just in the 50 range instead of the 15 range. Also, Cedar Park didn't make finals despite being in Panel 1, which I believe all 4 of next four came from, so that didn't keep them out. Wasn't there supposed to be a head judge (or two) that made sure the panels were even?
CharpieAg
And to be honest, what do you expect? It sucks for some bands who got left out but it’s a contest you have to pay to participate in.
Aardvark in NB
Does anyone know if Hebron got a penalty? That would push down their overall score without affecting their captions, right?

True. And Cedar Park was in the "high" panel and still didn't make it. Guess well see how it all plays out now
BenedictCucumberpatch
The Next Four out of the top 5 in each panel were LD Bell, Hendrickson, Marcus, Westlake.
Popular Post A Testing Trumpet
As sad as it is to see Cedar Park, James Bowie, Round Rock, Timber Creek, Seven Lakes, Oak Ridge, Pearland, Winston Churchill, Haltom, Westwood, Coppell, Hays, and Prosper out of finals, I cannot say that it is anything surprising given how much the regional has become a monster. There is nothing to be ashamed of in not making Finals. What matters is if you gave it your all on the field, and if you did that; then you have nothing to feel but pride in your own performance. Rubisco
Finals should be interesting, since everyone will get the same panel. Panel 1 looks like it ran high in prelims. What we can tell from this is that Flower Mound was on top in panel 2. A little surprising for me, but not that much. Certainly, it's justifiable. The biggest non-finalist surprise is definitely Bowie. Panel 2 casualty? I'm interested to see how the top half/bottom half gets affected. Nny14
Does anyone know if Hebron got a penalty? That would push down their overall score without affecting their captions, right? That's a possibility. GE is also 60% of the score, so they might just be behind in that according to the prelims judges. I'm sure the scores are razor thin. principalagent
Even if Panel 1 threw off the captions a little and had decent influence on the finalists, the top 7 are pretty much as I would have called them. VERY happy to see Vista Ridge in the top half! I will do some history booking when I am back at my laptop after drinks. Popular Post MadisonBandMan1
Wow. This is a testament to how insane this competition is. I can’t wait until recaps are posted tonight. Also, I noticed this thread is very likely to pass last year’s record number of posts. That’s really cool. A Testing Trumpet
I cannot say that I am given the competition. (Regarding The Woodlands)
Rubisco
Even with the panel differences, I'm surprised to see The Woodlands outside of the top 7. I would have guessed that the performance qualities alone would have put them in, but if the judges are cold to the show, they're cold to it.
