LeanderMomma Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Lol yes my mom is Gina and my girlfriend's mom is Lisa YES!! Possibly the two most favorite band moms I've met to date. They were hanging out in the shade between semis and finals just outside the gate at BOA Austin last year, and so I forced myself into their little group so I could sit in the shade as well. They had the same snarky sense of humor that I have, so an instant bond was formed. I'm looking forward to seeing them again this fall! Quote

LostChoirGuy Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I am so happy!!! This is exactly what I was hoping to see! A tier of bands who are usually just outside of top 5 contention at previous BOA regionals competing for a medal, a large tier of super talented bands that deserve a chance at a BOA final and a couple of powerhouses. Enough to provide excitement to the competition but not to overpower it! Quote

This will be a fantastic opportunity for some of these bands who don’t usually get a shot at finals to come out and really show off. Good stuff! Quote
abtwitch Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Bands to look out for: Berkner Cedar Park Cypress Falls Dripping Springs James Martin Keller Central Marcus North Shore Pflugerville Hendrickson Round Rock Rouse Sandra Day O'Connor Southwest Wakeland Waxahachie Westlake Westwood Gees, this contest is already looking to be super intense. Wish I could go sooooo bad, but I can't. I'll have to stream it :/ Quote
Dog885 Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I'm gonna start the predictions train I guess. In no order: Medalists-Marcus, Cedar Park, HendricksonMid-Round Rock, Westlake, Westwood, Lower-Cy-Falls, Dripping Springs, Waxahachie, Berkner Bubble-Wakeland, Pflugerville, Keller Central Quote
bingogooberman Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 this is such a crazy line up, my initial way-too-early thoughts below: 1. Marcus 2. Cedar Park 3. Hendrickson 4. Round Rock 5. Dripping Springs 6. Waxahachie 7. Westwood 8. Keller Central 9. Wakeland 10. North Shore with Cypress Falls as the most likely replacement for any of these. Also, is that Frisco Centennial? That would be a surprising choice as their director isn't very keen on BOA (he was my director in HS). If so, they're an outside threat for finals. Quote
principalagent Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I’m thinking a band will win their first ever regional championship at this competition. Anthony V and landofwake 2 Quote
LeanderMomma Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I’m thinking a band will win their first ever regional championship at this competition. I think you could be right! Hendrickson? Marcus? We'll see! Quote
Guest Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Marcus has won many regional championships in the past, but itd be their first since 2012! Quote
Jackson1 Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Marcus already has multiple regional wins but I agree they will be in the running to win Waco. Quote
principalagent Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 To be clear, I’m thinking Cedar Park or maybe Round Rock for this. Cedar Park just had a major director change, but I think everything is in place for that program to succeed. herbaflerb and LeanderMomma 2 Quote
bingogooberman Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Def thinking Marcus here- cedar park is great but their design holds them back, IMO. Could see Hendrickson pulling it off but that would be insane. Another win for Marcus (it would be their 8th, if you count super regionals) Quote
LeanderMomma Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I'm thinking Marcus, Hendrickson, Cedar Park...but who knows! Quote
josephbandfan Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I'm curious to see how Marcus will turn out because I heard they have a new director. Airmedic372 1 Quote
LeanderMomma Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I'm curious to see how Marcus will turn out because I heard they have a new director. Evidently quite a few bands have changed directors this year. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Quote
JeremiahW Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I'm curious to see how Marcus will turn out because I heard they have a new director. Marcus and Hendrickson will both be under new head directors and Cedar Park has a new assistant director. So it will definitely be an interesting year to watch how all of these groups change. Hard Core Band Fan Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Marcus and Hendrickson will both be under new head directors and Cedar Park has a new assistant director. So it will definitely be an interesting year to watch how all of these groups change. (And Bowie as well.) Quote
bingogooberman Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 My assumption with Marcus at least is that their 2018 program was likely ready to go before drinkwater took the fine arts director job so we likely won’t be seeing a drastic change from them this season. 2019 however will be interesting. Quote
herbaflerb Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 To be clear, I’m thinking Cedar Park or maybe Round Rock for this. Cedar Park just had a major director change, but I think everything is in place for that program to succeed. Round Rock is definitely in a good position here. I can see them taking the contest or maybe Hendrickson even with the director change. They're both solid programs Quote
