Gogogo Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I like it! Can’t wait for the Fall Festival hopefully it won’t “rain” out this year. With NEISD starting two weeks later than rest of state it will be great to see what Madison, Reagan, Churchill, CTJ will have on the field Quote

With NEISD starting two weeks later than rest of state it will be great to see what Madison, Reagan, Churchill, CTJ will have on the field great....that means they get even more practice time than all of the other Texas bands. I wish UIL would change some of their rules about marching band. I don't understand why they can't begin learning drill until August 1st. And now, with so many schools starting earlier and losing valuable marching time, it's even more challenging to get the show learned in a timely manner. Quote
aaron067 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 There have been a few alterations to accommodate the bands that reside within districts starting earlier. The ability to use as many hours as they like on weekends throughout the entire month of August regardless of their start date, for example. At least, I think that's been approved. I definitely remember reading about the change. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 You know, this is the earliest that we have had our show anounced, I hope this bodes well for us. From the looks of it this could be the show that finally gets us into area finals. Hope I don't jinx it though. Quote

Gogogo Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 so if that is true and only for those with the early start - does that put others that don't start early at a disadvantage? Quote
principalagent Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 so if that is true and only for those with the early start - does that put others that don't start early at a disadvantage? No? Because the earlier start schools lose five to ten full practice days to school, to only get three or four 8-8 rehearsals back, since I highly doubt anyone will touch Sunday. The schools that start late are still well ahead. *And* this might be the perfect excuse for those later start schools to tack Saturdays on too, since they won't have Saturday restrictions either by virtue of school not starting. MadisonBandMan1 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 It seems like every HS band representative on this forum is spreading this sentiment with regard to their band’s show (I certainly am). I’m ready for 2018 to dwarf 2017 regarding the cutthroat competition in Texas bands I know, I can't wait. I wonder how many bands are going to try to copy Johnson's productiveness this summer too. ksacm06 1 Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Also, (knock on wood again) we may have had an off year while trying something new last year, but it looks like we are coming back stronger than ever next year. Quote
ksacm06 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 What kind of new things did you guys try that didn't work? Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 It's really the fact that it was new and we had a lot if freshmen. The show design was much harder than the year before. And it's even harder this year, but so far we are handling it much better, and overall our band is much better including the freshmen than it was last year. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 We just weren't quite prepared for the jump in difficulty, but now we are. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 Sorry for the triple post, but we also had a double tonguing feature for the first time in our show last year and we handled it quite well. Quote
