whitewing09 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 SFA hasn't done BOA in a minute, huh? That will be exciting! I'm very curious as to the competition between Reagan, Vandy, and TWHS. TWHS looks especially hungry this year. Quote
Guest Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 So they are still on the smaller side, despite being a bit larger than 14-17, but imo have the best show since 2010. Quote

TWHSParent Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 So at the band booster meeting tonight, we were informed that the band will not be allowed to perform in finals, and MUST "Support the football team". Apparently it was handed down today. It was suggested at the meeting that the band parents politely ask the Conroe ISD administration to reconsider that decision. I'm working on my letter... As a parent of a member of The Woodlands High School MarchingBand, it was with great disappointment that we were given the news that ourstudents would have the opportunity to showcase their hard work ripped awayfrom them on October 6th. Our children spend just as many hourspreparing their performance as any other athletic organization, and they deservethe opportunity to showcase their work in the environment most suited tomarching band, which is a competitive marching band contest. The Woodlands High School Marching Band program is notmerely one of the best in Texas, but is one of the best in the entire UnitedStates. This program has won the Bands of America National Championship, and isboth a UIL and BOA finalist on a regular and consistent basis. In order tomaintain the high level of performance and to improve, critical review and feedbackis paramount. This feedback is obtained by performing the program atcompetitive events. Making and performing at the finals of any event is a growthopportunity for all the band members, and eliminating that opportunity does a disserviceto their personal growth and education. The band students are in band for a musiceducation experience. They deserve every opportunity to further that educationand experience for their benefit and growth. Therefore, I request that the decision to force TheWoodlands High School Marching Band to forego the opportunity to perform in thefinals of not just a contest, but a contest at our local stadium where more ofthe community and parents are able to attend and support, be reconsidered andthat the band be allowed to perform at the Conroe BOA contest finals. Thoughts? How can I make it better? CTJBandPops 1 Quote
Samuel Culper Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Ask them if they would ever consider telling any athletic team they could not compete because they had to go support another organization. Txbandfan89 1 Quote

FEDude Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 I thought y'all had a new Superintendent. You'd think they'd understand that The Woodlands, of all bands, is more than just a football cheer leader. Is there maybe a way you guys could have a JV band perform? Especially if public opinion doesn't shift. Quote

whitewing09 Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Not that it really matters to a band like TWHS, but it's not like yall get a discount for forgoing finals. Isn't the idea that BOA contests are expensive because y'all get the critical feedback from experts in the field. Quote
Samuel Culper Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 One option would be to put out a call to parents and alumni to come play in the stands in place of the band. Surely there would be enough alumni in the area to assemble a decent pep band. Quote

I can't even imagine how heartbreaking that must be for the students. I know if our directors told us we'd be skipping finals, for a football game of all things, the band would absolutely riot. Cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria. In all seriousness, it'll be so sad to not see y'all at retreat. whitewing09 and TWHSParent 2 Quote
TWHSParent Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 If it ends up this way we just have to deal - go out and win prelims! It actually looks like we'll have all the drill on the field for that contest, which is unusual for us. Choreography will still be a work in process. As was mentioned earlier, our sound is really good so far too - quite a bit better than recent years at this stage. I've not said much about our progress, but I'm ticked enough tonight to spill some beans... Quote
