Popular Post Rubisco Posted September 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 14, 2018 Letters are nice, but it might take a large group of parents showing up in person to demand a change. "Hi Curtis, you thought you could ignore our letters, but here we are! We just wanted to let you know that we're NOT letting our kids go to that football game. You can go ahead and force Joni and the other directors to go to the game to direct a ghost band, but our kids won't be there. So, you might as well reverse your decision, because no matter what you decide, our kids won't be at the game, and they might as well spend that time off doing something educationally enriching rather than sitting on their butts!" Oh, and then take it to the local media, if need be. What a crappy situation! CTJBandPops, Txbandfan89, Parkwoodmom and 1 other 4 Quote

LeanderMomma Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Rubisco is on a roll. I would be happy to show up with a crowd of parents. It’d be especially cool if a lot of area bands showed up too. Even better, football players and families! TWHSParent and Parkwoodmom 2 Quote

Danpod Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Sorry. The band can't make the game tonight. They ate at Pappa's Burgers and every Houston person knows that place gives you the pickle squirts. TWHSParent and Parkwoodmom 2 Quote

LostChoirGuy Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 They should also be aware that this isn't just a local issue. Since the competition is streamed on Flo Marching, people from all over the US may have been looking forward to using their paid subscription in order to see TWHS. It completely lowers the value of watching that competition and therefore the streaming service itself. TWHSParent and rdmmp 2 Quote
Parkwoodmom Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 I saw today, matter of fact on FB, (from The Villager paper), that Conroe ISD received a MUSIC award. Yes, that's right. No doubt that there is great music in the district, in spite of this unfortunate situation, but I had a comment on that..... I'd show up with a sign! Quote
principalagent Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Do we know what day The Woodlands performs in San Antonio prelims? That might be the culprit here. Quote

WoodlandsMom4ever Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Another TWHS parent here. Thank you for any who are willing to send letters and help us raise awareness to the unfairness of this. Another parent suggested in a Facebook post that we could reach out to the local colleges and see if one of their bands might play the football game pep band for us. Does anyone here have any contacts in the Houston area colleges? I’m not an advocate of the band ghosting the football game- we have been telling our kids that their job is to go to the events that Perez states on the schedule- and do their best and have fun and work hard- it’s the parents who will work separately to try and change this for this year and future years. LeanderMomma Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Or even a band from the Houston area that doesn’t do BOA. Quote

On the ghosting posts, you'll find that the people behind those very much understand the situation and the unfairness. They aren't truly advocating that anything like that happens (including me). And out of that set of posts, I did learn a new phrase "pickle squirts". That had me rolling. I don't have any contacts with local colleges/universities. U of Houston is doing an exhibition at BOA Conroe - don't know if they could be persuaded to stop in at Klein Memorial Stadium on their way back to campus? Or would one of our other CISD bands be available? How about Grand Oaks? The percussion director there was with TWHS last year. College Park, Oak Ridge, and Conroe are all at the BOA contest. If they don't make finals, could they be a possibility? LeanderMomma and Parkwoodmom 2 Quote

Popular Post Avisshadow Posted September 15, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 15, 2018 This right here is an unfortunate downfall of having a big school distict. While there are 2 stadiums for the Conroe ISD, with the additional of Grand Oaks high school this year, there are 6 high schools in the district having to share those stadiums. Unfortunately The Woodlands College Park, Oak Ridge, and The Woodlands have to share the Woodforest Bank Stadium as their home stadium- and in 2 years time so will Grand Oaks so Thursday and Saturday games happen very often, especially with the Woodforest Bank Stadium being host to multiple contests (like BOA- Houston ironically) it makes the scheduling even more difficult. As an Oak Ridge band alumni, it is absolutely devastating seeing one of our own beloved school district’s band having to miss out on a band contest- especially the best band in the district! For that weekend TWHS pulled the short straw in terms of scheduling herbaflerb, Parkwoodmom, LeanderMomma and 1 other 4 Quote
whitewing09 Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Why do they couple so many schools in one district? For funding? Avisshadow 1 Quote

Avisshadow Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 I guess if areas are just densely populated then there has to be more schools for that area. And if additional schools are added on due to previous school’s overcrowding they’ll have to be in the same district. Like the TW College Park I think was added because of overcrowding at TWHS, and Grand Oaks added to Oak Ridge’s overcrowding, etc Quote
LeanderMomma Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 It's the same in the Leander district. Growth here is INSANE. Avisshadow 1 Quote
