gmtb617 Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Hey guys! I know there’s already a thread on UIL Area contests, however I think I’d like to start a series of Area threads similar to those from 2016, with a thread focused on each Area. I’m hoping creating this thread will spark others to form threads on the Areas they care about the most. As for me, I care the most about Houston Areas since I’m from a band within this metro. Thoughts and/or predictions on Area I with the rezoning? Quote
Astros Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Hard to predict this area but I’m pretty sure ever school will be happy with no Hurricanes! This area may not have the best bands in the state but I’m pretty sure their programs are the most resilient MarchingBandNerd 1 Quote
Astros Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 CyFair ISD, Katy ISD, and Houston ISD school make up the area as far as I can figure. Quote

Cy-Fair is the official name of the high school, Cypress Fairbanks is the school district. The hyphenated name is the only name the school goes by, which is unlike the other 8 schools that start with Cypress. Even UIL has listed them incorrectly at times. MarchingBandNerd 1 Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 JET, Seven Lakes, Langham Creek, CyFair and CyFalls should do well out of this area Quote
jcbg Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Based on Conroe, Seven Lakes, Cy-Fair and maybe JET should be at the top. Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 Cy Falls? Haven’t heard anything about them recently Quote
thebashful15 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Haven't heard much about Langham either Quote
takigan Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Cy-Fair and Langham are very likely in.....beyond that there are a lot of bands who could surprise here. Seven Lakes is having a good season, Bridgeland and Cy Ranch are both having breakout years, Cy Falls had an off-season last year after a staff change but is usually solid and could bounce back. Cy Creek has a new head director and Cy Woods is having a very good year as well minus all the contests they're signed up for getting canceled. Band_Nerd 1 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Curious to see how Bridgeland does here. They have had a great season so far. thebashful15 1 Quote

Guest Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 1: Seven Lakes: Try to see this show before the season ends, they may not be state finalist level quite yet but BOY is this a great show. 2: Cy-Fair: I understand they may be most peoples choice for first in this area, and they may very well end up there, but from an execution stand point id say Seven Lakes has them beat by a very small margin. One of Cy-Fairs greatest strengths is uniformity in technique from performer to performer, which was rock solid at LSP. 3: Taylor: A band that has been on the cusp of being one of the heavy hitters in Texas for years. Very unique innovative show with some fantastic soloists. Killer uniforms as well! 4: Cypress Falls: Very solid band but lacks the depth and emotion of their stellar 13-16 run. Nevertheless, very clean band and should be in the running for another state appearance. Great rebound after last year. 5: Bridgeland: VERY solid young band. Such a mature sound for a band with no seniors. If they can clean some individuals they could very well make 6A state in only their second year. 6: Langham Creek: Best showing from them in years. Great arrangements and a very great look on the field. If they miss out on state it will be because of the rapid rise of other programs in this area and not their own short comings. 7: Cypress Ranch: Great breakout year. This program is performing at a COMPLETELY different level than they ever have, and I would not be suprised to see them at make their first state appearance. 8: Tompkins: Similar to Dawson in area E, a brilliantly performed show. Lacks demand in areas, but great show nonetheless. Definetely a force to be reckoned with in years to come. 9: Cy-Woods: Good effort after some down years. May not be a state qualifier but should be in area finals. The last spot could be taken by a variety of bands including: Katy Cypress Creek Cypress Ridge Jersey Village Morton Ranch Cinco Ranch Quote
Danpod Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Breaking News:Area I hits the mark at 25 bands for Area Prelims. 5 will advance to State. Quote
makebeats Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 any predictions for who will qualify for state? here's mine: 1. Seven Lakes 2. Cy-Fair 3. James E. Taylor 4. Cy-Falls 5. Langham Creek Quote
principalagent Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 I wonder if Bridgeland can manage to be the quickest advancement to 5A/6A State in UIL history. Quote
Danpod Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Area I schedule is now posted in the Area Schedules thread of this forum board.I would like to take this time to thank Chick Fil A breakfast for sponsoring this post**Not sponsored by Chick Fil A even though I'm literally eating a chicken biscuit as I type. thebashful15 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Very intrigued to see how Seven Lakes/Cy Fair/Cy falls are scored relative to Taylor/Tompkins in prelims due to their performance times. I've heard how earlier bands usually have a disadvantage - though im not sure it'll make much of a difference as to who makes finals. Finals should be fun to watch - I do agree that Cy fair and seven lakes are the top bands in this area with cy falls, taylor, and langham right behind them. It'll be fun to see if any darkhorse band emerges to take a spot from these 5 bands. Also, imagining a repeat of Area E in 2016 where nearly 40 bands made area and only 10 made finals...in this case, im very glad the areas were split. MarchingBandNerd 1 Quote

jetliner Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 It's much nicer that the mathematical maximum time between a prelims and finals performance is 'only' 12 hours, which is very unlikely to happen (Cy-Fair could go 9:30 AM and PM if certain State Contenders miss), whereas a certain group had a 14+ hour gap between performances in 2016. It was a very necessary Area split. Quote
bob456 Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 My thoughts: 1. Seven Lakes 2. Cy- Fair 3. JET 4 and 5. Langham Creek/Cyfalls Quote
