I also think we're all tired and should probably go to bed! Yes, that's the mom in me. How about that World Series game the other night?! 18 innings?! Show offs!

Ha! Max Muncy hit the walk-off home run for the Dodgers. Your well intentioned attempt to distract me from Area B didn't work because one of my sons played baseball with Max...at Keller High School.

And we're back!

Yeah Max was a student at Keller back when I was there. He was a few years older than me so I didnt know him, but my extended family are all big Dodgers fans so it has been fun to have that connection. I went to a dodgers game back in August and got to see him hit a home run during that game, too.

The thing that stood out to me most tonight was when the Keller and Timber Creek drum majors stayed on the field to talk when everyone left. It almost brought tears to my eyes. Keller is such a respectable program and it shows that these results are irrelevant compared to the relationships that these kids have with another. Bravo Keller and Timber Creek for being great humans!

The connection between these programs runs deep. Timber Creek's Director was an Assistant Director at Keller from 2008 to 2014. When Timber Creek won the BOA Midland Regional earlier in the season the kids at Keller sent them a card congratulating Timber Creek for being the first school in KISD to win a BOA Regional. Imagine how big a card it takes to have enough room for 400+ signatures. Those hugs you saw were genuine expressions of shared disappointment. It was a bittersweet night again for the Keller band kids and parents. Timber Creek is not the only one longing for their nightmare to end.

Earlier today...

Wife: When does the new Top 30 go up?

Me: Today.

Wife: What time?

Me: When it's done.

Wife: So you're telling me it's run by a bunch of guys?

Me: I think they're single too...

I'm willing to check with her if you want but I don't think you're helping your case. :)

While everyone else is arguing over finals...I’ll just be salty that Martin and Bowie placed higher than us. LoL

I’ll admit I’m lost. My background for scoring comes from my kids being in diving and all star cheer. You get scored, highest wins, no voting.

I am truly super happy for these kiddos. It’s so much hard work and I hope Area B places well at State!

For us it’s on to concert season and supporting our 7-0 undefeated football team!

Now I’m lost. In what way does the UIL system involve voting?

Yeah definitely bittersweet. Keller has a 3-time streak for being area champs while Timber has a 5-time streak for being runner up.

I might be wrong, but Keller’s area streak isn’t 7? Starting with the move to Area A in 06 Keller won each contest in West Texas and 2014 with the split Area. And now they’ve won the last two Area B contests. But I could be wrong if you know otherwise.

Oh wow, didn’t know that. Was just keeping up with the past few years. Thanks for the correction!

Thank goodness my sunburns always fade to tans very quickly! Kind of weird to have a sunburn this late in October! But then this IS Texas lol

Using a bit of good old fashioned detective work, I've been able to narrow down the search for the judge who placed Keller 10th in music to 2 suspects. I'm told that both suspects love to heckle.

Haha!

I have a serious question for anyone to answer. Do judges switch captions between prelims and finals? Could the same judge that had them in 11th in visual in prelims also have them last in music in finals?

They do switch and you are onto something.

After looking at the results is was pretty clear that in prelims and finals *most* of the judges agreed on Keller and Waxahachie as the top 2. I think most judges though Coppell and Prosper would round out the top 4. It really was just that one judge that had a grudge against Keller. 5-10 is where it gets scary.

This story just keeps getting more heartbreaking. This morning I learned that last night during warm-up, moments before taking the field in Finals performance, Keller broke a drum head. With no time to replace it and the UIL season on the line for both of them Timber Creek loaned Keller a drum.

This was the 5th time in a row Timber Creek finished one spot out of advancing to the Texas SMBC and they still loaned Keller a drum so they could advance.

"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends."

One of my friends who has a kid at Timber told me that the Keller kids cheered for Timber before Timber went on for finals during warm up and that the Timber band returned the favor after they finished and waited for Keller outside the gate.

Vote was the wrong word to use. I was referring to the piece where judges "place" bands.

The scoring I'm used to in youth sports is elements judged independently (here let's say, musicality, drill, overall impression) then those elements add up to an overall score minus any deductions. Scores get ranked, top score wins.  When I looked at the Area scores it looks like the judges award what place they think the band should get then those "places" add up to their overall score.

If anyone has a link that helps me understand scoring I'm more then happy to educate myself.

When I've asked other people what the difference between our band and say, Flower Mound is, all they say is "money". I'm hoping that's not the case.

My poor daughter burned only on the right side of her face. It was unexpectedly hot in San Antonio yesterday for sure.

So, I’ve heard that there’s a chance that Prosper might step out of UIL State because of BOA Grand Nationals.. but, looking at the schedules with there being a 1 1/2 day difference in performance times and even though they are first to go at Grand Nats it seems that is unlikely and no alternate will be taken to State? Sounds like they will have a very very busy week that week with also going to BOA San Antonio..

Can anyone confirm that Prosper will definitely attend the State competition, given that they have GN in Indy the same week? If they do not, what happens? Does Timber get a slot at that point? Asking for a friend son.

I would assume from the fact that they are on the UIL State Schedule that they are not backing out.

I'm looking for confirmation...plans need to be made, work schedules arranged, etc. I was hoping a Prosper parent, etc, or someone definitely in the know could chime in.

The judges actually do score the bands. Look at the results and look at the number with the rank. They then rank them based off the score. So they do exactly what you said.
