LeanderMomma Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Jeremiah, have y’all thought about doing a separate Horn Rank type system for just the Texas bands? Maybe on the HornRank site itself. You could add a section called TxRank. Dog885 1 Quote
1998-2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 ...wish there was a Texas version of HornRank There already is but it's usually more like a Top 20+. Just don't count the bands in the Top 30 that don't have TX in their name. Then you can participate in the ranking process by adding the TX bands from The Next 10 in the order you prefer. Or am I the one missing something here? Quote
Popular Post JeremiahW Posted October 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 14, 2018 I have a small disdain towards Hornrank wish there was a Texas version of HornRank But it's already over half Texas!! Avisshadow, jcbg, Nragis and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post LeanderMomma Posted October 14, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 14, 2018 But it's already over half Texas!! Oh I know, but come on. We know the others don’t matter. (Kidding!). How bout y’all just change the whole thing to TxRank and then you could have a little blurb on the side for “Miscellaneous Great Bands Not From Texas.” Xenon, StrikerEZ, jcbg and 3 others 6 Quote
GreedyGreen Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 I personally believe it looks better on Texas to just have this one ranking system, but with over half of the top 30 and the next 10 from Texas. If there was a Texas-only system, it should not live with the national ranking system, as that might make us as Texans look a little... uhhh... prideful. FloMoParent and northtexasbandfan 2 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 I agree not to have it as a hornrank thing. Bit i see no harm in discussing it here. Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 I think we’ll have the exact ranking after San Antonio. It’s fun to speculate though. Anybody want to take a shot? I see a lot of talk about it but nobody is actually posting their rankings yet. Quote
1998-2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 I think we’ll have the exact ranking after San Antonio. And that ranking will last until...Tuesday, when we get another perspective to debate. Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Not every band participates in the San Antonio Super Regional. In fact, many of the bands that could be argued are top 30 are not going to be there (Waxahachie, Cy-Fair, etc.) Quote

LostChoirGuy Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Meaning that you don't think those bands have an argument for being top 30 in Texas? Quote
BenedictCucumberpatch Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 I feel that HornRank placing Tarpon Springs at #1 is a little strange. Their finals score was less than Ronald Reagan’s, and BOA conroe was a week before BOA Orlando. I feel that a few more bands, like the top few at BOA Conroe, should be a little closer to Tarpon if not above. Quote

Additionally, the depth of competition was much higher at Conroe, which generally will push scores up. Tarpon could only work with that they had. Just watching Tarpon’s show explains why they got ranked first. It’s just extremely well done and well performed. FaultLineBlues 1 Quote

If Tarpon had ever competed against the Texas bands, which they most likely never will until Grand Nats, and even then pretty unlikely with the pattern they follow, I’m curious to see how scores would have played out. Technically because we will never know, there is a lot of guesswork that determines rankings other than justified opinions. Quote

TWHSParent Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 not yet - the proof is in the pudding- show me the money This is true. I also think the top 30 will be different as ranked by BOA vs UIL styles. Ok time for the 10.5 hour flight back to Houston. At least I’m not flying from Asia... LeanderMomma 1 Quote

azn Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 I kinda wish there was a Texas version of HornRank Quote
PantherBone Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 I agree - the prolonged absence is the issue and my point If I look at the trending data going back to 1990 - only 2 programs in Texas have brought home the Eagle LD Bell - in a 12 year span they attended GNats 9 times including 6 years in a row from 2005 to 2010 winning 1 gold, 3 silvers, and 2 bronze medals TWHS - since 1998, they have attended GNats 10 times winning the gold in 2013 Reagan - has attended 6 times with 4 of them in a 6 year span and took 2 silvers in that time. I think we can all agree that Texas has some of the finest marching arts programs in the country - the point of the original post is are those programs going to be happy with a ranking from Horn Rank - or bringing home the Eagle it is just a shame that so many programs in Texas finish strong in San Antonio and do not make it to the field in Indy - so my hope would be for more of those programs that medal in SA advance or recognize that BOA SA is more comparable to GNats. Yet another reason to move GNats south or west: to recognize the great band programs all across the country, not just Indiana. Going to GNats in Indy is expensive, so moving GNats around the country makes it more accessible to more bands and would allow more bands to be recognized on the national level for their achievements. I also think smaller bands should be recognized on the national level and not just the big bands, but that is a discussion for another time. CTJBandPops and Mash 2 Quote
