Did you forget about oakridge I wouldn't count them out of the top 35

Also thank you to those who mentioned ou program in this thread in the last few days,it really means a lot. Ididn't ask for it this year.

That opener is very beautiful and there are several great moments. Many very cool visuals as well.

 

Besides, results have not come out for this competition yet. Warren 2014 comes to mind. They were kinda out of everyone's mind the entire season, then BOA SA rolled around and they placed higher than Taft and O'Connor. At that time they also had a godly drum line and color guard which helped them a lot. Madison could end up beating the other SA area bands (besides the obvious 2).

 

Wesley Perkins had a reputation in NISD of being a really funny guy, but also somebody who could be very serious. I remember during district band auditions, there were problems with the percussion room. I was doing economics homework, others were laying on the floor, some were on their phones so there was general chaos. The next morning (since Percussion auditions were a 2 day process) he chewed all of us out. I still did economics homework, but there was definitely a more reverent tone in the room. I think someone got caught with his phone out and got chewed out personally by Mr. Perkins. He's a great director and will lead your band into a successful and consistent track. Your class will be the leaders that helped make that possible.

I think Plano east should also be considered. We’ve made a lot of improvements from our down last year and top 35 is possible

Time to make a prediction as followed by my post on the predictions page(this time with an explanation included)

 

1. CTJ- you guys may be wondering why Reagan isn’t in this spot as much as I think they can take it like we all do it’s not guaranteed but I know CTJ I haven’t seen a video of them unfortunately but I know they’ve made good progress and usually peak late Season from what I understand looking forward to seeing it as soon as I can!

 

2. Vista Ridge- they really peaked last year late season and I bet they can do it again with the right performance Reagan could end up here too though and probably will but I’m not counting out Vista Ridge

 

3. Flower Mound- they have a great show I saw on YouTube and love it! Can see them medaling here again if not winning

 

4. Hebron- they have a really good show and really good music as well I just recently saw it and enjoyed it a lot they have great music and if they don’t medal I’m sure they’ll come close

 

5. Ronald Reagan- Ok this definitely is the lowest they’ll place it was a bit hard to predict there is a part of me that thinks they can win but it won’t be too easy they can get a caption if they have made progress will definitely love to see how they are now their show is incredible!!

 

6. The Woodlands- Their show is super enjoyable and I love it a lot! They totally can be in the top 7 again they seem to be having a fantastic year and I’m excited for them

 

7. Leander- their show is really good they can definitely peak late in the season I love the concept and I believe they have totally made progress

 

8. Vandegrift- I enjoy their show but I’m not so sure how they’re doing and how they will do based upon progress of other bands but I expect them to do very well and at least come close to top 7 or even top 5

 

9. Marcus- they definitely are having a great year as I haven’t seen their show I know it more or less and am sure they can be top 10 definitely

 

10. Cedar Park- I know they have progressed through the season and I can see them being back into finals this year I look forward to them as well

 

11. LD Bell- don’t know much about them but I believe they’re doing great again this year and totally can be in finals

 

12. James Bowie- I know they have a really fantastic show wish I could see it somewhere but they can return to finals again I look forward to seeing where they go!

 

13. Westwood- Their show is great! They are clearly having a great year especially at BOA Houston they proved anything is possible I can see them being finals they deserve it! I wish them the best of luck!!

 

14. Oak Ridge- May seem like I’m biased but I think with the right show and mindset we can make it into finals definitely be on the lookout for us I am happy for how far we are coming and look forward to marching my last contest!! I PROMISE you won’t be disappointed Saturday at 11:15 AM!

 

Music- Hebron - they have great music doesn’t at all surprise me I can see them taking it

Visual- CTJ - They are usually clean to my understanding if Regan doesn’t win this I can see CTJ taking it

GE(tie)- CTJ/Flower Mound - they both have amazing concepts and this wouldn’t surprise me in prelims at least but Reagan can shoot right up if they don’t win prelims

My Data set has them there if I do a plus or minus .8 than it will be Round Rock or Wakeland. However, it is very tight between 15-20 so it is really anyone's guess.

Ode to the Roadie’s on the night before BOA

 

'Twas the night before BOA San Antonio, when all through the Band Hall not a creature was stirring, not even a Tuba; The Uniforms were hung on the racks with care, in hopes that morning would soon be there; The students were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of Standing Ovations danced in their heads; And mamma in her show shirt, and I in mine too, had just settled our brains for a short winter's nap, When out on the band-pad there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.  The moon on the breast of the new-fallen dew, gave a luster of midday to objects below,

When what to my wondering eyes did appear, but a large Band Semi with a driver so lively and quick, I knew in a moment he must be the head Roadie.  More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, and he whistled, and shouted, and called the other Roadie’s by task: "Now, Front Ensemble! now, Large Prop! now Instruments and Podium’s! On, Electronics! on, Uniforms! on, Props and Catch-all!  To the top of the trucks! to the bottom of the trucks! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, they meet with no obstacle, so up to the Fast Lane they flew with the Trucks fully loaded, and the Head Roadie too—

 

And then, in a twinkling, I heard at the Alamodome the roaring and screeching of each semi truck.  As I drew in my head, and was turning around, out of the cab came the head roadie with a bound.  He was dressed in Black and Red, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tussled with sweat from his work; A bundle of instruments he had flung on his back, and he looked like a one-man-band just ready for a show.  His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!  His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!  His droll mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a quick smile that spread when he laughed like a jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke to the team and they went straight to his work, They emptied all the trucks; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the staging area they all rose; they sprang to position, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.  But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—

“Into the Dome we go, and to all a good show!”

Well, here we are- the night before San Antonio!  I haven't really said much about my predictions for this event because I honestly haven't had any idea what my predictions were going to be.  But, here is the best that I could come up with and a few thoughts to go along with them.

If there is anything that I have learned in the last few years of following this event it is that even when it seems that there are certain predictable ranges that groups will definitely fall into, there will always be surprises.  I have tried my best to incorporate some of those surprises that I expect into my predictions.  

 

First, I must say that I have actually not seen many of the potential finalist shows at all this year.  I purposefully decided to avoid watching videos of them after the first few weeks of the season because I wanted the performances to be fresh and new to me.  Some of the ones that I have seen, I haven't seen since very early season videos.  I did watch the Waco and DFW regionals and the Texas groups at STL.

 

Ronald Reagan has my favorite show that I have seen this year, and while my initial instinct is to put them as the winner here, I have learned that Flower Mound seems to have mastered this contest over the past few years and I feel that they might just have the formula to take their show to another championship.  The 3-6 spots were very hard to choose.  None of them are deserving to place out of the top 5 and honestly I can see any of them earning a medal.  Leander seems to be a less common choice here, but from what I saw of their show early season, I think it really has that factor that can differentiate itself from the rest of the shows here and be a standout, provided that they have cleaned effectively as the rest of their visual comes so naturally.  Vandegrift looked so great early season and will definitely do well musically, but I don't think that they will still be above the rest of the pack with their visual scores as the others have cleaned their shows.  CTJ is a mystery to me and I don't quite expect Hebron's show to fully blossom until Grand Nats where it will definitely be in strong contention for a medal.  

 

Most of the rest of these placements come from trends that I have noticed from groups in the past and how they do vs. expectations.  Keller and Cedar Ridge seem to consistently be underrated.  I feel pretty strongly about the first 13 bands being in finals and chose Coppell as the last finalist based on their Music.  Their show seemed to have a lot of potential to me and I think they could really surprise us with a great showing.  I would not shock me in the slightest if any of the other groups I listed below the line make it into finals though and there are probably another 5 groups or so that I could also see making a surprise appearance, though less likely.

 

I am so excited for this to start!  I have to work a few hours tomorrow, so I will miss the first block and a half and have plans in the evening so I will miss the last block, but other than that I should be able to watch all of the performances this weekend on Flo.

Y’all are vastly underestimating Wylie East. They haven’t shown up in hardly anyone’s predictions around the top 30-40. Guarantee they will be in that mix, maybe even higher. Not to mention they just qualified for State for the first time in school history this past weekend!
