BlueCircle Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 I love TWHS’ show so much! It’s so cute and has so much character. They’ll be in finals but I have no idea where the judges will put them. Quote

paulhhs Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Did not see any prelims yesterday. From today, the following are locks (in order, w/ an overall comment) TWHS (most emotionally satisfying) Hebron (technically most difficult show) Vista Ridge (solid. Not as emotionally satisfying as TWHS or as technically difficult as Hebron) Marcus (Cleanest show) Quote

WILKINSON Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 That was beautiful Roma. That would’ve done wonderfully at State 5A. I feel so sorry for what happened to them. Those kids didn’t deserve that. This was their year. I hope they place well here. gmtb617 1 Quote
gmtb617 Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 I’m so glad Roma was still able to get a run in the Alamodome. Really solid stuff from this group! A Testing Trumpet 1 Quote

Rubisco Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 I really liked Pearland, but I've been a fan all season! I don't think I liked it as much as that train show from a few years ago, but who cares. Vista Ridge was an interesting one for me. Very high energy. Lots of really interesting moments visually and musically, but the performance left a little bit to be desired. There were quite a few stick-outs in the ensemble sound, and the visual had quite a bit of dirt. TWHS was kind of the opposite. I was impressed by the performance they gave, but the energy seemed low. Some of that is the difficulty. The music is in constant motion, as is the band. I thought it was funny how they threw in a few extra power chords here and there for this late-season show, as if to say, "See, we can do what everyone else is doing, but we're choosing not to do that this year." It's such a different show, which I appreciate, but I'm not sure everyone will appreciate it. I could see it doing really well here, or placing towards the bottom of finals. I'll probably watch it on multi-cam in finals, just to pick up all the characters. Sorry, I've been traveling, so I've missed a lot. Also, you can't get me out of bed before 9 on a weekend. Quote

OK, thanks. Yes, agreed that is a bad way to go out, a bit draconian. Not sure the punishment fits the crime there. El Gato_01 1 Quote
RealSkipBayless Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Vista Ridge had an amazing performance. I was in shock. Nearly had me in tears. PLC137 1 Quote
Bandisdope Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 I think so far we have seen a ton of great bands, mine would go something like: Reagan Flomo Vandy Leander Hebron CTJ Marcus Woodlands Vista Ridge Keller Coppell James Bowie Cedar Park Vista Murrieta Cedar Ridge Westwood Westlake Bandisdope and BandFan59 2 Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 And there's still several bands left in the schedule that have a shot at finals to go. Prelims recaps are going to be hectic. Quote

Their appeal was denied. That's what I love about UIL - you can perform a 2 and get a 1, but if you're late getting off of the field, you get a 2. Rules, inflexibility, and tradition are making UIL less popular every year. UIL, keeping old men and old ideas important in the band world... LHSbandDad, justabandkid94, Rubisco and 2 others 5 Quote

jetliner Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Off topic-ish, we have once again surpassed the record for most replies to a competition topic. (Will we be able to make it the most replied on the site? The Word Game says probably not) Quote
LTtrumpeter Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Did anyone catch LT last night? There hasn't been a lot of talk about the performances from us (or taft) last night ... probably because of the ridiculously late time slots Bandboi123 1 Quote

jetliner Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 LT was solid. Looked a fair bit cleaner than when I watched in person at STL. Quote
