BandFan59 Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 A little further analysis of the panel debate with the prelims results: 5 of the top 7 bands in prelims were from Panel 2. The highest score in prelims for Panel 1 was Ronald Reagan who scored 94.7 and was 1st overall. The second highest was Claudia Taylor Johnson who scored 92.9 and was 5th overall. The third highest was Flower Mound who scored 92.57 and was 8th overall. The highest score in prelims for Panel 2 was Leander who scored 94.35 and was 2nd overall. The second highest was Vandegrift who scored 94.05 and was 3rd overall. The third highest was Vista Ridge who scored 93.9 and was 4th overall. Of the top 20, 9 bands were from Panel 1, and 11 were from Panel 2. The score gap for Panel 1 ranged from 94.7 to 86.97. The score gap for Panel 2 ranged from 94.35 to 87.3. Just some food for thought. Hard Core Band Fan 1 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Looks like Keller went from 5th in prelims to 11th in finals for Music, which was their strength for sure this year. Quote
BlueCircle Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 FloMo in ninth was pretty accurate to what I saw in the dome, but Keller should’ve stayed as 10th imo. Vista Ridge was shockingly clean and deserved every bit of that medal. But what’s the point over arguing about scores...I’ll give my full thoughts later. ratbu123 1 Quote

They have had several great shows the past few years and came in at 18th overall- ahead of groups like Coppell, Cedar Park, and Prosper. They’ve been kind of slept on these past couple of years. Glad to see that they did this well at this tough competition! Quote

Similar to when Keller got 3rd in music in 2016 prelims, but dropped in finals. Quote
cubuff8 Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Oak Ridge tied for 5th in ensemble music??? Wow!!! Kudos to them Scansion and Avisshadow 2 Quote

Rubisco Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 The more I sift through the recaps, the more baffling they become. It just seems like the judges and I watched very different shows this weekend. To each his own, I guess! At least the band that should have won came out on top, and with the highest ever finals score a Texas band has posted! Congrats to Reagan! I’m interested to see what happens at Nationals with our TX groups. They’ve got 2 weeks, and as 2016 demonstrated, what happens at San Antonio isn’t always the best predictor of what happens at Nats. I am, of course, super excited at the prospect of 6 TX bands in finals. And hopefully Vandy’s music can put them over the edge and help them bring the Eagle back to Texas. david19c Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Perfect way for Vista Ridge to show people that last year wasn't a fluke. From 20th (2015), to 18th (2016), to 16th (2017), to 4th (2018), and finally to 3rd (2019). Absolutely insane. All of the other bands were amazing but I wish people would talk more about Vista Ridge other than how it's worse than Lost and Found or how they stole the Mandarins prop or how the soprano soloist is a weak link. Additionally, there were numerous people on the HornRank forums talking about their "brass sound is inconsistent" and that their "HornRank placement inaccurately placed them higher than they should be". Everyone has been putting them at the 6th to 9th/10th range, but they surely Turned the Tables on us. Can't wait for them to go to Grand Nationals next year. gregorydf01 and An Inspirational Pinecone 2 Quote

betelgeuse33 Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 I didn't see Flower Mound, but still can't help but being shocked by their placement. Overjoyed to not only see Reagan as champion, but also break a record! I was definitely hoping to see Coppell and Cedar Park place higher. Quote

I didn't realize what that truly meant until just now. The thought of Vandegrift becoming Grand National Champion on their first trip to Indy is a possibility and I could not be more awestruck by that. How exciting is that. Quote
