SpartanBandAlum Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Blue Springs placed 6th last time they came to SA, I believe, and they’ve improved a lot since then Quote

And then there are the up and coming Texas bands. Blue Springs is great, but they would have more competition in Texas these days than they did the last time they came. Quote

It was a fantastic show! Flabbergasted that they didn’t make finals at GN that year. Had to have been a mistake because that show was magnificent. Quote

I definitely agree, but even with the increase in competition, I could see Blue Springs joining the elite group of Carmel, Avon, and Owasso and breaking into the top 5 at SA LeanderMomma 1 Quote
principalagent Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I think Blue Springs is good for the top half, but not willing to say they’re in for a medal yet. Carmel will come on an even year. They saw what happened to Avon when they came on an odd year Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Yeah I wouldn’t say Blue Springs is quite strong enough to medal, but with a 6th place finish at BOA SA in one of the most competitive BOA years in Texas history, I don’t think a top 5 finish is that out there Quote
Guest Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 I think we can at least all agree they are a lock for finals Quote
Guest Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 On a seperate note- Rouse moved up 21 placed from 48th place to 27th place between 2017 and 2018. Imagine if they did that again next year... Quote

Although I think it is a little easier going from 77.55 to 86 than it is 86 to 94.5, but it can be done... Quote
Guest Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 I dont think they will jump that much but I think for the first time, they will be legitimately in the conversation for finals. Quote
principalagent Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Let’s get 5 LISD-S in finals! It’s certainly in reach. LISD-S already has the record for most schools from one district in finals, with four. It has also now tied for most schools in the top half of finals with LISD-N. But LISD-N remains, with NEISD (multiple times over), as the only districts with two in the medal podium. Indeed, LISD-N is the only district to have done this at both BOA San Antonio and 5A/6A State. LISD-S and Spring ISD have also accomplished this at State. Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 I’d like to add something that a lot of people seem to have missed. Weiss jumped 23 places from 58th to 35th as well as adding about 13 points to their score. They were only about 2 points behind Rouse this year and I think they could at least put up a fight in AA next year Quote
Guest Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 Unfortunately Weiss lost their head director so I guess we will see how that affects them. In the event that it does not affect them all that much, we could also see them put up a fight at 5a state. Quote

How large is the attendance there? Quote
principalagent Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Weiss should be AAA. Their school size this year was in the 1600-1700 neighborhood. Quote

No I mean BOA reassigning bands to divisions. According to the adjudication handbook BOA will not reclassify bands till the fall of 2021. Quote
principalagent Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Bands get reassigned every year as applicable. The cutoff realignments happen every three years. Quote

Well then I have completely misread the rule book. I guess I was trying to make BOA a bit too much like UIL haha. Quote
CTJBandPops Posted December 31, 2018 Author Posted December 31, 2018 2019 predictions for BOA SA Finals - in Alpha order CTJ Hebron Leander Round Rock TWHS these are all Gnats bound programs and I have to this think that they will bringing a big show to San Antonio I have heard about the "timing of the peak" but I do not see program missing finals in SA and pulling a medal 2 weeks later in Indy Quote

TWHSParent Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 The last time there were 2 weeks between SA and GN was 2015. Hebron, The Woodlands, Round Rock, and Keller all made SA finals and GN finals that year so I would expect something similar in 2019 too. Keller Central was the fifth TX attendee that year, and missed finals at both contests (24th at SA and 22nd at GN). Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 In those two weeks, Hebron also added 6 points to their score to hit that record semifinals score. Could we see something similar happen next year? Quote
SomeBandNerd Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I don’t think it’s a matter of peaking. BOA San Antonio is so much more difficult than Grand Nats. They should really rename it Grand Nats San Antonio. If Carmel and Avon came down to TX for this contest there would be different results than Grand Nats. Quote
