I pass by the school on my way to work every day. I dont know much about the band except that they are growing and improving. The school is in a rapidly growing area (think almost as fast growing as Frisco, but just not as big yet) so there is lots of turnover. I think it is splitting off into a new school in 2020. Also apparently their assitant director did their student teaching at Keller? I don't know anything about it but thats pretty cool. That sounds very interesting. I would like to see a battle of the Westlakes LeanderMomma, dylan123 and Jzkool 3 Quote

It will be a different experience for those Utah kids, but I sure am excited for them to get this opportunity! Can you imagine coming to BOA SA for the first time EVER and not being from Texas? We gotta make sure to cheer VERY loudly for these kiddos!! AvonDad and Dog885 2 Quote
abtwitch Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 We also have a confirmation that Vista Murrieta from California will be making the trip, rooting for them to make finals! But that makes 2 confirmed out of state bands so far, do you think we could see anymore? sop153063 1 Quote

I hope this happens with the Utah band this year. LeanderMomma 1 Quote

At this point, I would not be surprised to see at least one more out of state band attend, if not more. Quote

Wow, hearing the “Cinderella Mindnight” from Prokofiev, I was not ready for that, brought back a lot of memories from HS, probably my most favorite anything I’ve done on a marching field! Seeing the scores from that, they could’ve easily made finals had one judge scored them a little more favorably. They sounded like a finalist band for sure Quote

It was definitely a top tier performance. 2016 had 4 Texas bands in finals and Bowie was just out of finals so it was a tough year at Indy for sure. And with another large group of Texas bands gunning for the Eagle in Indy this fall, San Antonio is going to be equally tough. The Texas bands will be on fire in SA and at GN this November for sure! As parents who weren't chaperoning, we were warmly welcomed everywhere we went. Our kids felt the same way as they made many new friends there, as did we. We had such a blast that I've already scheduled vacation time and planning on a trip back to SA this year just to watch and enjoy. Now, "Y'all", I expect a contest where no one really knows who will make finals and no one even has a clue who will actually win the thing. IMHO, SA 2017 was better live than GN 2017 live, and I was at both. So get to it! WoodlandsMom4ever 1 Quote

abtwitch Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Was looking at band calendars and I noticed a very interesting attendee who's never done BOA before, John Horn! They are also doing BOA Austin and Waco beforehand, so I'm excited to see how they do. I was a huge fan of their show this past fall and think they 100% deserved qualifying for state. principalagent Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 They would be the first BOA Finalist in Mesquite ISD should they make it. Quote
lost Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Always nice seeing non-boa bands decide to appear at SA. I hope Georgetown follows suit Quote

They were fantastic at UIL Finals this year. For being a little smaller of a band, they are just as great as some other bands of bigger size. Quote
bingogooberman Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 interesting to see john horn tackle such a rigorous BOA schedule, even if they had a spectacular breakthrough year last year, it's not often a band goes from no BOA involvement at all to two out of town regionals and a super regional. very gutsy. i like it! Yes we do, and he is a main reason why we have come so far, he joined in 2017 and helped John Horn become who we are now. But it's not over yet, he wrote the show One Of Many, Many Of One mostly all by himself. 2019 is going to be a big year for us and a big change. I hope it goes great. Thanks for the support! Quote
