Saxman1324 Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Cedar Park and and Dripping Springs as the first two is going to set a crazy base line for the whole contest and I'm interested to see how well they cope with those early spots. Don't think it was necessarily a nod to 2017 but.... 3rdGenBand 1 Quote
ja2austintx Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 How would I find scores from various contests this year? Is there a master database? Individual contests can vary wildly in their efforts to stay up to date. Some just have skeletal Facebook pages. I'd like to see how various Austin 5A bands have done in events where they've competed against schools from farther away. Quote

ValleyBandFanta Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 Hey so does anyone have any predictions for finals with the 12 bands? Quote

Luckily Cedar Park is staying in San Antonio the night before. Travel time will be next to none and they may be able to sneak in a practice before (and if they make) finals. Quote
Mellogang21 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Out of curiousity, does anyone know how many 5a bands are in the state of Texas? How significant is top 34 bands or even top 12 bands at state compared to the whole state of Texas? Quote

El Gato_01 Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 There are 265 5A Schools in the state. Quote
Danpod Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 254 5A bands entered the Region Contest this year. After Monday night, 12 will be left. I have chills. 11BandMan11 1 Quote
Popular Post El Gato_01 Posted October 29, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 29, 2019 Whats crazy is that of the 254 that started at region (out of the 264 5A bands listed in the state) 197 of the got a 1 and advanced to Area (not all chose to attend the Area contest) 74 made it on to Area finals (one area didn't have finals) 34 made it to state 12 on to the finals at state and 1 champion at the end. mteggatz, 11BandMan11 and Danpod 3 Quote

To be fair though, in 2017 CP going first can be seen as an advantage. They were able to have a normal warm up and were not effected by the adverse weather outside like everyone else was. Plus if I recall the moisture may have played a part in the electronics issues that DS had right before their performance. I do agree that both of those programs are going to be ready to roll when it come time though! Wish I could be there in person to see it! Quote

Yes, it has happened before. Back in my 80's North Mesquite days, we KNEW that the administration wouldn't pay for us to go to state (they would football, of course back then) so we gave up our spot to Lakeview Centennial, I believe. My wife Graduated from North Mesquite in 83, small world. She was in the Drill Team though and not the band, but give her credit that she did marry a Band guy! LeanderMomma and jvinton206 2 Quote

Really? That doesn't sound right considering they sent Poteet in 1990. What year was that? Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Considering how many people are falling at BOA this weekend, I have to think that those who are competing in both contests will have an advantage at state with the opportunity to practice marching on the turf that apparently is making kids falls all over the place. gregorydf01 1 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Yes. Im seeing several fall in almost every show. Quote
tpresley Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Was my post deleted? I asked if kids are falling on the turf? Quote
tpresley Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 That’s too bad, hopefully they didn’t twist an ankle. Quote

I think it is safe to say Lebanon Trail, Wakeland, and Lonestar all are about to do really good at state with how competitive they were at Area B. Quote
chesteriop Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 No one is really talking about Area F, but Burleson Centennial and Aledo both were amazing at BOA SA, although not even Wakeland made finals, sad. Roma’s performance literally left me in tears, it was so good haha. Can’t wait to see how these groups do on Monday, there’s too little spots for the amount of greatness, top 12 could go anyway really. Quote
