SpartanBandAlum Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 It’s not the most competitive area in the state, especially with the loss of schools like Barbers Hill, Lumberton, and Tomball Memorial, but I think there’s some potential for some strong competition between schools like Porter, Willis, Crosby, and Huntsville. Thoughts? Quote
Guest Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 1: Friendswood 2: Willis 3: Tomball 4: Galena Park 5: Porter 6: Waller 7: Shadow Creek 8: Bryan 9: Crosby 10: Foster Quote
8to5brass Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Friendswood is amazing, and Willis has really cranked it out over these past two years and evolving rapidly. I would expect to see Crosby higher on the list than what y’all have placed, and Bryan is also a 6A band so they shouldn’t be on the list. Quote
GeekyBandMom Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Friendswood is great. They have a history of doing very well at state. Did they miss 2017? Quote
principalagent Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Friendswood was in 6A over the last two years. They did advance to state from Area E in 2016. Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted November 17, 2018 Author Posted November 17, 2018 Friendswood was still 6A in 2017, I believe Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted November 17, 2018 Author Posted November 17, 2018 I’m not sure I’d have Porter under Tomball/Galena Park. We beat Tomball at State in 2017 and came very close to beating Galena Park a few times this year. Otherwise, I agree with most of it Quote

Otherwise, I agree with most of it They will be very close, but I could see either coming out on top. Both bands are getting much better very fast. Quote
principalagent Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Does this area cover all of Houston? Area E I believe covers the rest Quote
Guest Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Area E I believe covers the rest Friendswood likely falls under area E. Quote
principalagent Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Friendswood likely falls under area E. Just checked, and this is correct. Regions 13, 17, 19, 23 and 27 make up E. I is 9, 10, 33, and 8-South. JullianG13 1 Quote
Tailgate88 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Bryan moved up to 6A last year. Here's a list of all the bands in the area currently. Thoughts? A&M CONSOLIDATED BEAUMONT UNITED CANEY CREEK CLEVELAND COLLEGE STATION CROSBY DAYTON GALENA PARK GRAND OAKS HUNTSVILLE KINGWOOD PARK LAKE CREEK MAGNOLIA MAGNOLIA WEST MEMORIAL PORT ARTHUR MONTGOMERY NEDERLAND NEW CANEY PORT NECHES-GROVES PORTER RUDDER TOMBALL VIDOR WILLIS Quote
J-Mike16 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 If im doing the calculations right, there are 24 bands listed above. Lets say all 24 bands make it to area, then it will top 10 make it to finals so that means 4 bands go to state, so i predict those 4 bands will be Tomball, Porter, Galena Park, and Willis. LostChoirGuy Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Good prediction. I think Grand Oaks will surprise, though. Also Crosby and Magnolia will be fairly competitive. This will be a strong area despite not having any major medalist contenders. Quote
WoodlandsMom4ever Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Grand Oaks band director- Mr Flake has kids that have been in our TWHS band. His daughter was our head drum major last year, and he was a private lesson teacher for many of our wind ensemble (top band) clarinet students for many years. We are all excited to see what their band becomes as the school grows and they get all the grades at the school. They also took our former pit director to be their percussion director. I think they will most definitely be an up and coming band once they get all grades in place. Quote
abtwitch Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 College Station band also stepped it up last year and they're in my predictions for making state. They beat Willis at Waller last fall and I fully expect them to keep improving considering there hasn't been any staff changes. Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted October 5, 2019 Author Posted October 5, 2019 I think we’ll have a much better idea of where everyone stands after the GPISD contest tomorrow, considering a lot of the area’s big players (Porter, Willis, Galena Park, Crosby) will be in attendance JullianG13 1 Quote
Tailgate88 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 That show wasn't on my radar, but looks like a lot of good bands will be there today. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gXCQm0lnCJSB0u8ZAV3sY8UWlSpjlI7xvY21Vg5wSuk/edit Quote

J-Mike16 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 no. but I do know Lumberton got 1st in 4A.but that has nothing to do in this topic. Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted October 6, 2019 Author Posted October 6, 2019 Our directors have been keeping the results quiet (We went to USBands Dekaney in the afternoon and missed the announcement), so I’ve got nothing Tailgate88 1 Quote

That's impressive! Especially on a 95 degree day. If you directors share the placements at Galena Park, please share them here. Quote

We got the news really late last night that Porter won in 5A at Galena Park! I believe Willis was second. Quote
