betelgeuse33 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 What other band didn't qualify for Area? I only see that Rudder, Port Arthur Memorial, Lake Creek, and Montgomery didn't. Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted October 23, 2019 Author Posted October 23, 2019 Beaumont United was listed in the draw order despite being 6A, I believe Quote
betelgeuse33 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Ohh, I see now. Well this has not only reduced Area I to 3 state advancing, but only a finals composed of 7 bands correct? Quote
SpartanBandAlum Posted October 23, 2019 Author Posted October 23, 2019 I believe so, which means that at least one or two bands that had a legitimate shot at making state won’t even make finals here Quote
betelgeuse33 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 This contest will be all the more suspenseful now. Good Luck to everyone! Quote
J-Mike16 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Wow. so I guess the 2 bands I think will be moving on will be Porter, Galena Park, and then the final spot could go to: Willis, Crosby, Tomball, and/or Magnolia. and that's 6 bands right there. some very good programs will not make it. Oh and I could see Grand Oaks making finals but not state. Edit: I feel like Area I has a lot of bands that was in Area E in 2017. That year there was 36 bands that qualified and 7 went onto state, and now this year 19 qualified and only 3 will move on from the 7 finalists. so some bands who was working hard to get into Area finals this year will now have to work harder JullianG13 1 Quote

Popular Post oddlynormal Posted October 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 23, 2019 Here is how I see it. 1. Galena Park/Porter 2. Porter/Galena Park 3. Tomball 4. Magnolia 5. Grand Oaks 6. Crosby 7. College Station/A&M Consolidated ____________________________ 8. Magnolia West 9. Willis 10. Port Neches Groves This is based on contest results from UIL contests and not BOA style contests like LSP or Katy. Magnolia could catch Tomball, but I think Tomball makes the better ensemble sound. Galena Park and Porter are CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN. I'll give Galena Park the edge because their sound is starting to rival their sister school North Shore. However, it is really anyone in that top 4-5 bands that can pull it off. It is really going to come down to who has the best run in the moment. I predicted GP and Porter to go back and forth this year. It looks like that will be the case. I saw Willis and Magnolia West at Region 9 yesterday. Willis had a bad run facing the sun so I expect them to be in better shape Saturday morning. Magnolia West was a shocker. They have gotten better really fast. PNG usually always pulls off a top 10, but sadly this year will be top 7. There is a chance Crosby misses finals. They are half the size they were and the show is just not as good as they have been the past few years, but they are still quite good. College Station or A&M Consolidated will make finals, but not both. I think the top 4 are solid locks. Beyond that it is anyone's game for finals and the advancers. I am excited for this show! Wendy41899 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I’m really hoping to see Magnolia make finals and even advance to state! Would be their first time ever I believe. I think we have a really good show this year but of course I’m partial. Lol I know ALL these kids have worked so hard. WoodlandsMom4ever 1 Quote

Tailgate88 Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 All right we're all going stir crazy, let's do something to pass the time. Do we know the show titles of the advancing bands? Here are the two I know: A&M Consolidated: The Seasons of Life College Station: It's in the Stars! Quote

betelgeuse33 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Congratulations to everyone who advanced!! I, however, was hoping that A&M Consolidated or Magnolia would make it through. Fingers crossed for Porter to make state! Quote
betelgeuse33 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I heard that these were the preliminary rankings for the finalists. I'm not 100% sure these are correct. Correct me if I mixed them up 1. Tomball 2. Willis 3. Galena Park 4. Crosby 5. Porter 6. Grand Oaks 7. College Station Quote
betelgeuse33 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 I was able to see some of the finalists bands and I thought... Crosby was definitely clean music and marching wise, first time I had seen them. The Also Sprach Zarathustra worked as a great opener with great dynamic contrast and balance and I loved the Romeo and Juliet rendition! The Elsa's Procession (I believe is what it was) brought the show to a great finish with great fundamentals as well. Their marching was very clean as always. Tomball's show was pleasant to watch as their uniforms and props gave a good aesthetic, but their marching (I think at least) was also clean and I enjoyed their drill. Sound wise, they were definitely of the most notable having a big sound and great woodwind moments. I definitely saw them in the top 3. Galena Park was incredible! I thought they had the best sound of all, having not only power but a high level of maturity and balance. Dynamic contrast was on point, and I can't get enough of that Mahler's 2nd in the beginning! Flute and sax soloists (I'm a little fuzzy on whether there was another soloist/s) were amazing. Their marching and visuals were overall very good as well, but hopefully they can kick it up a notch in finals. Definitely my favorite. Quote
