2019 BOA Dallas/ Fort Worth Regional

I can so relate! My wife and I picked a home less than 1/2 a mile from Vista Ridge 9 years ago, my son was in Middle school Band and my daughter in Elementary. One of the criteria was the Band Program in the School and District. Cedar Park and Leander were the 2 best at that time with Vandi. getting better. But Vista looked to be on a solid path and a great foundation with the Middle school feeders so we were happy to find a good home near Vista. I'm in my 50's now and my Daughter is a Sr. in the Vista Ridge band. For me it is my 8th year as a Vista Ridge Band as a Band Dad. I love to hear them practicing from my home! I love to be able to walk over and watch! I love all the years doing this not just the very special 2018! I will be back watching next year after my kids are out of High School and I hope some Alumni Parent volunteer opportunities pop up!

Retirement is coming up in the next 5 to 10 years and I am thinking about the 5th wheel motor home I will need to go around the country watching Marching Band competitions!

That’s some great intuition you had 9 years ago:). Hit the mother lode on choosing Vista Ridge:). I think VR’s show and Reagan’s were my favorite from 2018.

That RV retirement idea sounds heavenly! How fun would it be every fall to tour the nations BOA contests, ending in Indy every November?!

Hmmmm....I wonder if I can talk my husband into this. :D

We must have been typing at the same time. After I posted I read your comment and had to edit my post to add the bit about the travel trailer to sway your award my way :)

If you do buy the RV and travel to band contests every fall, you’ll be the winningest winner of the Band Nerd Award! Maybe we will be co-winners because I think it’s the best idea ever!

my company moved me to San Antonio in 2009 from Coppell, and had a 6th grade sax player - we were looking at homes in both the Reagan and CTJ boundaries. CTJ had just opened as a spin off of Reagan. we purchased our home 2 blocks from CTJ. our sax player became a 4 year guard member and we have spent the next 4 years supporting the Alumni group - this year we have a freshman. like you, I am 5 -10 years from retiring and my wife and I have had the same conversation - do we get a motor home and travel to band competitions 3 months out of the year.

as a band kid myself in the 80's - I have always followed Texas bands. In the last 20 years, I lived 2 blocks from Marcus, then a few blocks from Hebron, and then just down the street from Coppell - I would always drop by and listen to the evening practices and look forward to the day my kids could be a part of a great program. Happy that we selected to move into CTJ (no slight to Reagan)

My wife and I have also bounced the idea around from time to time.

The successful colleges all have tailgate parties for football, seems like Texas should have them for band:). I think this is going to be the year at Indy, so many top programs going, they’re not all going to have a down year as has happened so often in the past. By that, I guess I mean not winning is a down year, probably not the right word choice.....At least the rain is not pouring this year. That’s only good thing about lack of rain and heat!

When we get through hurricane season over here in Houston, then we can be happy about minimal rain. Harvey hit at the end of August in 2017, and peak season is around September 10th. TWHS's recovery from Harvey was tremendous, but what that show could have been, well, we'll never know.

You must not have seen the FloMo Band Parents tailgate at various BOA competitions. The "tailgate" between prelims and finals has become quite a scene.

Oh no I’ve seen them, Marcus and Flower Mound have outstanding parent support. From an outsiders point of view it’s strange that Hebron doesn’t have more crowd support at contests. It always seems like a small group.

Any insight on Burleson Centennial? I know they’ve always been strong in wgi but not sure about boa

I saw them at area in 2017 and was quite impressed. Their performance levels were very high, particularly in percussion, but they need to ramp up their GE and demand to make a splash at BOA. They remind me a bit of Willis HS from the Houston area.

Finalist - Semi Random order. First two are solid locks, after that I think we could have some surprises this year.

Flower Mound

Hebron

Prosper

LD Bell

Waxahachie

Marcus

Timber Creek

Coppell

Wakeland / Keller Central / Owasso

My predictions are as followed

FlowerMound

I feel it may be a slightly down year for Prosper with the new school opening. And I missed all of the stuff that went down this summer, but it sounds like Timber Creek had a rough go? I personally think Wakeland will make finals again, especially as it is a 5A state year and they will be bringing it all.

Edit: wait I dont think Prosper split yet. I'm a mess today, dont listen to me.
