12. Grain Valley HS, MO

13. Lincoln HS, SD

14. Stephen F. Austin HS, TX

This has to be the most stacked STL lineup ever. I think all the TX groups attending have a shot at finals but there’s not enough room for all of them. Also, does anyone know what happened to Bellevue West last season? They went from top 4 finishes here and silver medal in midland to completely missing finals in a weaker field. Thinking they could shoot back up the rankings if last season was just a fluke. Also not sure what to make of Bentonville or Air Academy

Air Academy is still great but not the same group from what I've heard and Bentonville is going through some pretty major staff changes. I have no idea what happened to BW, but I hope they turn it back on this season.

What about Stephen F Austin making their out of state debut after 10 years? They won their class (AAA) in BOA Houston and were .35 off of making finals

They are definitely going to be a big step up from what we have been seeing from them recently. Much larger band and a MUCH more BOA friendly show than we have seen from them in a long time. I think a finals appearance here is definitely possible but by no means a guarantee. I believe this is their first BOA event outside of the Houston regional since 2012, so it will be very interesting to see how they fare.

I like this prediction, too....mine was almost exact to yours although I could see SFA move up higher.  This one is wide open with only 6 finalist returning from last year. With all due respect to Haltom, I don't see them in the top 5 as some are predicting.  Great band and almost certain to be a finalist but I see them 6-10 placement.

I’m gonna go to there showing this week for end of summer . There theme is really neat this year . But we will see what happens

I think SFA should move up on the rankings I’ve seen and Lake Travis should move into the finals rankings but that’s just my opinion based on what I’ve seen

I love our txbands, but also love to see new players in the medal hunt. I think Jenks could give our top Texas bands a run for their money

Jenks has had a great band for long time so they certainly should be in the finals hunt. Pains me to say that but Tulsa area has a great group of bands. Never mind that the whole state is almost half the population of DFW alone. Hook ‘em Texas bands, save for Broken Bow...edit Broken Arrow. We’ll take them at grand nats:)

It’s interesting how the higher level of competition in Tulsa has radiated out. The top two bands in Arkansas are in the northwest corner of the state. Bentonville was rolling at boa St. Louis before they split into two high schools.

Except not this year - BA is not attending GN.

Oh wow, so they’re one of the bands staying home huh. How many years straight have they been going to gn?

I think they last skipped in 2016, then before that in 2013. So I think they go 2, skip 1.

Such a shame the Age of Discovery show didn't go to Grand Nats. I honestly think that would've won, easily. Probably one of the greatest modern marching shows ever put to field. Such an insanely athletic, gorgeous, and challenging show. I could go on and on.......... what were we talking about?

There are a lot of shows like that I wish would’ve been taken to Grand Nats as well. CTJ’s 2017 Production would’ve 100% been in contention to take the eagle without a doubt in my mind. I think any of the 2017 medalists could’ve given Carmel and Broken Arrow a run for their money truthfully.

It’s a shame that two of the greatest modern marching shows (Leonardo’s Dream, Age Of Discovery) didn’t go to nats that year.

What do you think?

A bit hard to get an accurate read because they did not have uniforms or props. They performed the first half of the show, and overall I have positive things to say. Firstly, this is likely the largest the band has been in almost a decade, with what looked like 100 winds marching. The opening was rather soft (could be intentional), but pretty emotional, and their drill looks very difficult, which led to some confidence issues from the brass. They weren't very loud, but the sounds they made were probably the best sounds I have heard from this band since the early 2000s. So overall positive, if they work on some contribution issues and clean up their demanding drill, I think they will have a pretty great season. I think they should make finals at St. Louis, and have a pretty decent shot of making it back in at the Houston regional. I cant wait to see the show fully developed.
