I think better than a good chance, VR populated it's students calendar for July through 2019 and it's in the Calendar!  Looking forward to visiting West Texas!

Not sure but CTJ does historically very well early in the season because they put so much content on the field right away. But you’re right. Vista could take it!

But they don’t *always* win in Austin. I remember a band from Leander beating them in 2016.

 

Edit: Actually two Leander ISD schools beat them that year. Vandy took 1st and Leander took 2nd.

My daughter is in the VR band and when signed in with a password the student schedule is shown. The view available for students shows the Midland contest on 10/12/19. So yes, kind of a internal calendar.

CTJ does well early and later - and will do so in Gnats this year

 

CTJ won 5 consecutive BOA golds in 2017-18 

• 2017 Austin - most competitive regional in Texas - Record score
• 2017 Midland - Record score
• 2017 San Antonio - Most competitive SR in Country and rivals GNats - 2nd win in 4 years - Record score
• 2018 McAllen
• 2018 Austin - most competitive regional in Texas - back to back win 

a school that was only been around for 11 years but finished 5th or better (with 2 wins) for the past 8 years

they went to and won McAllen in 2018 and went to and won Midland and broke 90 in 2017

Thanks banddad84, CTJ is an amazing band and I loved that 2017 show, I remember watching in RR that year and was just awestruck. They get the whole show in so early and still execute it at such a high level! They are one of my favorite bands and I would love to see them many times next season!

CTJ did win Austin, but VR won Visual Performance and took 2nd in Music, while CTJ was 2nd in Visual and 4th in Music. CTJ made it up by beating them handily in GE

Absolutely no one is questioning CTJs greatness, least of all myself. But it’s also ok if they get beaten every now and then. Especially by a Leander ISD band.

 

It’s all good, people. Have a wonderful Valentines Day! I’m finally making a return to the land of the living myself after six days of the flu. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be actually able to get dressed and go to work. But everyone go out and make it a great day. And if you don’t have a Valentine, do something super sweet for your momma. She deserves it for putting up with you people all these years.

Really excited to see who is planning on coming! Of course Vista Ridge will be phenomenal, will be great for the local schools to see the reigning 6A State Champion! And of course if Timber Creek chooses to return they’ll make it a great finals. I’m really excited to see someone like Burleson Centennial show up, I can’t remember the last time they did BOA but they’ll definitely be a finalist, and that drumline? Can’t wait to see that. Mansfield will be a great finalist addition as well, have really enjoyed their shows over the years. Hoping Del Rio comes back again too, has been fun seeing them improve exponentially the last few years.

 

In terms of the local schools, I feel like this addition has been incredibly valueable, as someone from the region it has created a ton of buzz and seems like it has really pushed programs on the show design front to bring something competitive as well as their performance levels. Midland Lee had a real break out year last year, that was their best show in quite awhile and will probably just keep improving. Permian has made finals both times, hoping to see them continue to build. Lubbock Cooper had a pretty strong year last year making finals here and greatly improving their San Antonio placement. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Frenship, Coronado, Midland, Pecos, or a few other local names pop into finals.

 

Looking forward to seeing who else might be signed up.

Agreed but still keeping my fingers crossed for a late spot, especially with a game the night prior.

 

I chaperoned on that trip to BOA Dallas 2017 and was a long 48 Hours Friday and Saturday with very short sleep on the buss on the way up.  But was still very rewarding and very glad I went with the VR Band on that one!

Looks like CTJ is going to McAllen and not Midland in 2019.   Going to miss them in Midland, would have been fun to watch!
