whitewing09 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Does anyone here run half marathons? I'm trying for my second, but had to take a week off for the flu. I was wondering if anyone has some advice for getting back on the roads. Quote

It’s a beast this year. whitewing09 1 Quote
LHSbandDad Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I have run several 1/2 and full marathons. After a week off I would suggest ramping back up slowly to your weekly average before the illness. I would not jump right back in because you would be susceptible to injury or at the very least, sore legs. After a week or so, your legs will let you know if you are ready to resume your normal training schedule. Quote
whitewing09 Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Awesome! Go for it! I've run lots of races up to 100 miles. I think I can help. How far were you running before the flu bug hit? My last long run was like two days before I got sick and I was at 7 mi. I'm kind of in a time crunch now. I have a month until the half, but it'll be fineee. Quote

LHSbandDad Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 You should be fine. If you can run 9 or 10 miles on your long days in training, you will make 13.2 in the race. Good luck!! Quote

whitewing09 Posted February 17, 2019 Author Posted February 17, 2019 I was able to run 8 mi yesterday. It was a little rough after mi 7, but not too crazy. Thanks to everyone for talking things through. Quote
