Ha, I’ll take it!

I will say the same thing about Leander that I said last week about Vista Ridge....it’s a very ambitious show, and when they clean it up, man oh man! And again I got quite the DCI vibe. The show is very typical Leander, style wise, but with an intensity I haven’t seen with them before.

Watch out San Antonio...LISD South is coming for ya!

Can’t wait to see Leander in Austin! I really enjoyed last year’s show.

Looks like the Football District for 6A Schools in (LISD South, Round Rock and Pflugerville) will be enforcing the rules on half time length and will make it more challenging for both the Band and Drill Teams to finish and clear the field in the 14 min. total allotment (especially for the longer BOA designed shows).   Here is a excerpt from the communication seen on this:

  •   In our new football district, a band that goes over the allotted 14 minute time frame for halftime (including Drill Teams) will be penalized by not being allowed to perform at the next game.

May change up what can be performed at half time and the amount time the bands get to have performing the full show on the field prior to contests.

LeanderMomma:  I saw you mentioned that you might make some of Vista's Home Games.   Here is the current revised schedule for the first 3 games (all home games at Gupton) :

Friday, August 30th, VR vs. Rouse

    Halftime – Salute Show

    Postgame – Turning the Tables

Thursday, Sept. 5th, VR vs. Killeen

    Halftime – Tuning the Tables

Friday, Sept. 13th, (Homecoming), VR vs. McNeil

    Halftime – Homecoming activities

    Postgame – Turning the Tables

That is interesting.  I don't think I've ever seen a band perform their whole show, though, at halftime

Most years the full show was not ready until later in the season so technically we did not have the whole show on the field for much of the season but we did try to get it in at the games prior to the big contests at the end of the year (Area, BOA San Antonio, State, etc.).  Mostly Early to Middle of October onward.

That's a big bummer.  I know Leander will be having a long show this season (our last Grand Nats show was around 11 minutes), so that is going to be quite a challenge!  Especially as the drill team does usually perform first at half time, followed by the band.  It will be fine at first as we have not learned the entire show, but could be quite difficult towards the end of the season.  Perhaps Leander will start performing the show before the games once we learn the entire thing, as we tend to do on special nights like Homecoming, MS night and Senior Night.

Dang football rules!!!   :(

Is there any video on Leander yet? I know they had the parent performance already but haven’t seen anything on YouTube. I know that sometimes this is intentional as well. I just wanted a little taste to whet my appetite. I don’t see a Grand Nats thread but my way too early predictions would be Carmel, Leander and a wild card medaling. I can’t see Carmel not medaling period, Leander is a legit/homer pick then the last spot would go to either teamtexas or Avon. With the absence of BA and TS this year tough to see anybody besides the Indiana duo and teamtexas being on the medal stand, perhaps Blue Springs? Maybe I’m leaving out somebody worth medal consideration, I’m not sure. I think Carmel is the only band standing in the way of Texas winning the eagle as I don’t think It is reasonable to think Avon would beat everybody from teamtexas. Assuming all 6 make finals (no offense to Round Rock but they are the only one I think isn’t a lock) with Avon & Carmel who are everyone’s picks for the remaining 4 spots based off of who you see attending? Again, don’t mean to offend. Just offering my fair assessment.

Leander isn’t posting videos this early in the season.

I’m not convinced on a GN winner just yet. We have not seen any shows so there’s just no way to know at this point, or even guess. My gut tells me Carmel will take gold again but hopefully I’m wrong. Avon will be in the medal running for sure as well. Predicting any thing right now is all just taking shots in the dark.

I feel like the top seven will be from Indiana and Texas. ;)

Hello ther! I'm back from the dead... for now. I have a really busy school schedule this year and I've wanted to keep some things quiet for a while and wait for the right time to tell you all. I hope y'all are ready for a great season of Marching Band across the nation!

So, first thing first, you are going to see a completely different Madison Band this year. For one thing, we have some AWESOME new uniforms this year (that are so flexible -- as in interchangeable -- by the way. We won't even be wearing the full uniform this Friday :D ) and they are so different you likely won't recognize us right away when you see us. Next, we are under the new Head Direction of Mr. Wesley Perkins as our former head director was promoted to the District's Director of Fine Arts this summer, and the new assistant director to replace Mr. Flynn is Mr. Jaime Ramos, a former co-worker of Mr. Perkins when he used to work at Sandra Day O'Connor HS. Don't worry, we are DEFINITELY moving in the right direction with our new leadership. We are so happy with our new team to lead us. Next, we are doing some things a little differently that I think you'll notice when we perform soon, so I'll leave that at that. From what I can tell, we are set up to have an amazing season, but I don't want to jinx anything like I did two years ago, so I won't get my hopes up. Things are just different about this year though.  Be sure to tune in to the NEISD Fall Festival on October first if you want to see the new and improved Madison Mighty Maverick Marching Band.

Last thing, as I've mentioned before, our show is entitled "Under Construction," and I think it's safe for me to release the repertoire now, so here it is:

Primacy of Numbers - Philip Glass,

Hymn to the Sun with the Beat of the Mother Earth - Yagasawa,

Enter the Galaxy - Paul Lovatt-Cooper

Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
